Report: Andrew Albers signs with Korean team

According to a report relayed by Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com, Andrew Albers has signed with the Hanwha Eagles of Korea. Probably a good decision for the lefty, who had no shot at making the MN rotation and might have struggled to make Rochester's.

Does that open up a spot on the 40 man?
I couldn't be a player because of bad eyesight, so I decided to be an umpire instead.

Yes, checked the Twins site, as of a few minutes ago Albers was listed on the 40-man roster.

Hmmm, pending move by the Twins? Hard to imagine they didn't know this was happening.

Maybe Albers has an ESL gig on the side, good money in Korea for that.

Just opening up a spot on the 40 man for Matt Garza. That sounds about right.

Not a done deal yet, per MLBTR.

Not a done deal yet. From here:
The Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization have shown interest in Twins lefty Andrew Albers, but the two sides have yet to come to an agreement, MLBTR has learned. While a deal is possible, it's a ways off, if it comes to fruition at all.
I think it will be great if it works out, same with the failed Colabello deal.

The Twins and Hanshin need to work out a deal for it to happen, but I would be shocked if it didn't happen. We know where Albers sits on the probably Starting Pitching depth chart. It would open up a 40 man spot. It's not going to take a ton of money from Hanshin to let Albers go make about a $1 million there. Good move for all involved.

When they signed him out of the Can-Am League, they could never have imagined how much they would be able to get out of and now probably get for him!

    Hey Seth...

Is this move of a soft-tossing lefty who occupies a spot on the 40-man linked to the acquisition of another (presumably) soft-tossing lefty that you hinted at in another thread?

    Who saw this coming?
How many lefties do we have now- 1?
    Great balance- way to go.
Are you referring to Kris Johnson?
Why does he get the benefit of the doubt?

So Asian clubs have now gone after two of the Twins Independant Leaguers. I assume the Twins said "no" when asked about Theilbar?

Sounds like Albers has agreed, so it's just a matter of the Twins and Eagles working out compensation.

How quickly would the 40-man spot have to be filled?

    Good Berardino summary: http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_2...rs-south-korea

And sounds like Albers would get somewhat more than the ML minimum (even if he made the team) so financially a win-win for him and the Twins ... especially if he felt like his chances of making the big league club were minimal.

Diamond, Gilmartin, Johnson is enough soft tossing lefties to satisfy me. Good for Albers turned a long shot into a nice pay day through a lot of hard work.

I'm sure the Tigers wish they had more lefties....

Mr. Albers had his 15 minutes of fame, if he was realistically part of the plan in 2014, the Twins were in deeper than any of us could have imagined.

This sounds like a great opportunity for Mr. Albers. Good for him.

And thanks for the memorable first 2 starts!!

What classifies as soft-tossing because Johnson throws 92-93, touches 94 at times.

First, I don't know anything about Johan (I assume that's who you mean) and his plan, but...

Second, I can't imagine him getting more than a minor league contract, so that wouldn't require a 40 man move.
