Last pitch to PLouffe was a foot and a half outside. How in the world is that a strike.
Joe Mauer career .871 OPS
Doug M Career .760 OPS
Yeah...about the same...

Someone asked earlier in the thread if there was any criticism that was legitimate.
There is one, it may have been brought it up, but I didnt see it.
Mauer's GIDP rate is probably higher then a...

Of course EVERY hitter lets hittable pitches go by. They guessed wrong, a mosquito buzzed their ear, they blinked. The point is that good hitters dont swing at crap. They liklihood that Mauer hits...

It does not and I will say again the issue has been looked at objectively and there is no correlation to an improvement in offensive value by doing so.
Even if he was a .400 hitter in every...

Those stats are created to measure HOF likliehood. Of the top 10 in WAR7 all are in the HOF or will be. Of the top 12 in JAWS only Thurmon Munson isnt or wont be and that has more to do with his...

No it really is about that irrelevant.
There is absolutely 0 data that suggest any meaningful correlation and the issue has been studied long ago.
What they have found is that the best...

Sure, but where did I ever say that? By all mean bitch all you want but when your criticizing a legitimate hall of famer it better have some meat I said complaining about not swinging at first...
04-10-2014, 09:02 PM
You have not only a probable hall of famer and probably one of the 5-8 greatest catchers to play the game EVER on your favorite team and people are complaining consistently about his plate approach. ...

I found some things shocking when I looked around because of this thread.
Mauer's WAR7 is freaking 5th EVER among catchers. Thats Johnny Bench, Gary Carter, Ivan Rodriguz kind of rarified air.

I'll double down on my relatively unsophisticated fan base comment.
If this kind of insanity exists among what is supposedly the elite of the Twins fan base then for his sake I hope he does get...

There is so much crazy and dumb in this thread its impossible to respond.
One thing I will say. If you have an elite hitter who catches at a gold glove level....its high octane baseball stupidity...

I'm not sure if it was this thread or another Mauer hall of fame thread but some seem to be complaining he "walks too much" to get 3000 hits as somewhat of an argument as to why he isnt a hall of...

I think you know what I meant and the idea that Mauer is overpaid or underperforming the market of when he signed is borderline absurd.
Yes more negativity i suppose too.
I will continue to say...

Not at all what i'm saying. I think the fans here (TD) are relatively sophisticated in their baseball knowledge. What i am saying is there is a whole lot more baseball rabid fans in those other...

Unrealistic expectation, relatively unsophisticated media and fan base and playing in an often horrible line-up and horribly constructed line-up. He would be much more appreciated in more baseball...

There are 16 catchers in the hall of fame. He is somewhere between 5-8 in value right now.
All he is doing is padding stats at this point. He is almost assuredly in, first ballot or not.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of virtual ink is spilled over Plouffe.
The Twins lost 90 not because of Plouffe. He is an averagish to slightly above average 3rd baseman. With how poor...
The Mauer haterade is infuriating and soooo misplaced if one has any understanding of the game. He is a typical Minnesota kid in action and mannerism except he has godly baseball talent.

I am more negative then previous years just because the things that drive me crazy about the management of my favorite team haven't changed one iota. Add on Sano's injury, Buxton's injury and the...
The problem isn't "giving them a chance" The problem is there is a finite number of roster positions and the players who lost them to Kubel and Bartlett have a brighter future even if they're not...
I think many people ( me included sometimes) read what Bill James writes but dont *listen* to what he said.
RBI's are over-rated but far from meaningless. Its most over-rated as an individual...

I think fire and attitude and especially demeanor are over-rated. Which isnt to say that it does not matter, but that their not as important as most people think. Pete Rose didnt get 4000 hits...

Do we have a source that Andrews looked at it and recommended that rest would be the right direction?
What Ive seen today suggests that there has been absolutely no new injury and no change in the...
Sure...if anything he said was remotely accurate and not just garbage there would be room for discussion.
Actually...nevermind I argue politics all the time....don't need to do it on a baseball...
