2016 Stohs Prospect Handbook Profile: Wimmers is an alum of Moeller High School in Cincinnati, a well-known school where the likes of Buddy Bell, Barry Larkin and Ken Griffey, Jr., attended. He went to Ohio State where he pitched out of the bullpen as a freshman. Over the next two seasons, he was the Big 10 Pitcher of the Year and went 18-2 with ERAs of 3.27 and 1.60. He struck out 11 per nine innings. The Twins used the 21st overall pick that year to draft him. Since signing, he has fought major control issues, had several injuries including Tommy John surgery. He has started but now appears destined for the bullpen. He sits at 90-91 with his fastball. He has a solid changeup and an inconsistent curveball.
