2016 Stohs Prospect Handbook Profile: The Twins were excited to see Zander Wiel still available when they made their 12th round pick. His father, Randy, was a sprinter in the 1968 Olympics. Later, he played basketball for North Carolina. He’s coached Division I basketball and professionally around the globe. Zander was a three-year letterwinner and an All State baseball player from middle Tennessee. He went to Vanderbilt and redshirt his first year. Hit .305/.406/.549 (.955) with five doubles and five homers in 33 games. His sophomore year, he played in 68 games and hit .260/.478/.409 (.787) with 14 doubles and five homers. In 2015, he played in 72 games and hit 316/.406/.571 (.977) with 19 doubles and 15 homers. He helped Vanderbilt to the College World Series. He is 6-3 and 225 pounds and quite a good athlete. He has tremendous power potential.
