2016 Stohs Prospect Handbook Profile: When the Twins signed Quezada out of Santo Domingo as an 18-year-old in September of 2012, he was 6-6 and 190 pounds, very tall, but very thing. He had a fastball that sat 87-89 and a makeshift breaking ball. He got $150,000 based almost entirely on projection. He pitched in the Dominican in 2013 and had a 10.29 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP. In just 14 innings, he gave up 14 hits, walked TWENTY-EIGHT and struck out 12. He returned to the DSL in 2014 and posted a 3.99 ERA and a 2.01 WHIP in 29.1 innings. He gave up 13 hits, walked FORTY-SIX and struck out 38. He came to the States in 2015 knowing that he needed to improve his control. He’s still 6-6 but now his weight is on the north side of 200. His fastball now has been clocked from 96 to 98 mph. The breaking ball and offspeed pitches still need work. He still walks too many, but he’s got the frame, athleticism and velocity to remain patient.
