2016 Stohs Prospect Handbook Profile: Polanco was signed as a very skinny kid. He was about 5-11 and maybe 155 pounds. At the time, the reports that he was a very good defensive shortstop who might be able to stick at the position. Over time, he has grown and is now 5-11 and 180 pounds. He has become a very capable hitter. In fact, many believe that he could hold his own with the bat in the big leagues. He has a very good approach at the plate, takes pitchers and knows the strike zone. However, he can be aggressive in the strike zone and has doubles power to all fields. He also has the ability to drive the ball out of the park. He has slightly better than average speed and runs the bases well. Ironically, the questions surrounding Polanco are now about his defense. He had a lot of errors, but more important, many question his range and his arm at shortstop. Most believe he is best suited to play second base.
