2016 Stohs Prospect Handbook Profile: At 6-4 and 225 pounds, Kepler looks the role of big leaguer. Despite his size, he is fast. That shows itself on the basepaths, not so much in stolen bases, but in scoring from first or hitting a triple. He can play centerfield, though he is a better fit in the corner outfield positions. He also plays a solid first base. He has had shoulder issues, but he has a good arm. He stands tall at the plate, with his hands high. He added a little leg kick for timing in 2015 and took on a more aggressive approach and powerful swing. There’s little doubt that he will hit for power at some point. He also uses the whole field. As impressive as anything is his approach at the plate. He doesn’t strike out often and he takes a lot of walks. In 2015, he walked more than he struck out. His all-around game helped him fill out the stat line and earned him the Southern League MVP award. Kepler is a smart kid and works very hard. He has a calmness and a poise that will help him.
