2016 Stohs Prospect Handbook Profile: A Florida native, Hicks was the 49th round pick of the San Francisco Giants in 2008. He decided to go to Central Florida where he spent four years. In his second year, he was found to have a collapsed lung and required two surgeries to fix the problem. Over his final two seasons, he hit .341 and .316 and added 14 home runs each season. The Twins took him with their 17th round pick in 2012. That year, he hit a walk-off grand slam to win the Appy League title for Elizabethton. He led minor league baseball in RBI in 2013 when he split time between Cedar Rapids and Ft. Myers. He spent all of 2014 with the Miracle. At 6-5 and 250 pounds, Hicks best tool is his power potential. He’s a decent athlete around first base. He’ll have to prove he can hit the bigger fastballs to advance.
