Burdi, Nicknick burdi
|Acquisition Details:||2014 2nd Rd|
|Hometown:||Hinsdale, IL (Louisville)|
|Notes:||Tommy John surgery in early June 2017.|
|2016 Stohs Prospect Handbook Profile:||The Twins liked Burdi enough that they drafted him twice. They drafted the Illinois native out of high school in the 24th round of the 2011 draft. He went to Louisville instead and became the nation’s most dominant and intimidating closer. Over his final two seasons, he struck out an incredible 15.8 per nine innings. Burdi is blessed with a powerful arm. In college, he was clocked at 93 mph. In the pros, he has sat consistently in the upper 90s. He also has a very sharp slider in the 89 to 91 mph range. His lack of control hurt him in 2015, both in terms of walks and falling behind in counts when batters could sit on fastballs. Burdi is extremely confident and has the stuff and the short memory necessary to be a very successful late-innings reliever.
