Hamels Signs Contract Extension with Phillies: 6 Years, $144M
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Cole Hamels and the Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a $144 million, six-year contract that prevents the 2008 World Series MVP from becoming a free agent after the season.
The deal includes a club vesting option for 2019 and a limited no-trade provision, the team announced Wednesday in a statement.
A news conference is scheduled for noon before the game against Milwaukee."Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand."

Jesus Christ...I like Hamels but god damn.
I wonder how much this would have cost Philly if they would have appoarched Hamels a year or two ago instead of waiting til the last minute?

This reeks of Barry Zito. Pay monster money to a guy at his absolute peak with stuff that could become very hittable with just a minor downtick in velocity.

Wow. That is an albatross. I really like Hamels, but not for that kind of money + years.
