Savvy move by Beane or is Manny destined to fail?
I don't see this move going well. The only upside would be if they could get something for him at the trading deadline.
At this point, he's a name. I don't think that he's got anything left.
I, for one, would love to see it work, just because it might change how players who have been out for a year are viewed. Too often a guy ends up being out of work for a year and then that's it. I'd love to see a counter-example.
I think this one is destined to fail. Not to say for sure that Ramirez doesn't have any gas left in the tank, but where has he not quicly worn out his welcome in recent years?
I agree with Seth, Manny is past being a productive player. With his 50 game supension still needing to be served, it will be a tough sell to trade him before the deadline.
In some aspects that reminds me of the Twins bringing in Steve Carleton in '87. Not that effective, but sold tickets...
He hasn't been able to catch up with a major league fastball for quite a while now. I'm not seeing how this works.
