    hits

The Twinkies are doing good at hitting.
The have 130 hits, which puts them at #4 in MLB.
It sure makes the games more exciting....

It's early but a healthy Mauer, Morneau and Span + Carroll over anyone at short last year + Willingham/Domit to replace Cuddy/Kubel is a nice little offense.

Twins have the 10th best OBP in the majors and the 11th best OPS. That's a good sign.

I actually had gone back game by game in the box scores and saw they had:

    11, 10, 13, 5, 14, 7, 13, 8, 13, 8, 6, 2, 7, 6 hits in each game.

Then I realized I could get a total at mlb.com!

Indeed. However, add the fact that the lead the league in GIDPs and are the worse in SHs and SFs, that they are hitting a weird .222 when anyone is on 3rd base (regardless on whether there are men on other bases) and 2 outs, and then you can easily translate that into being the third worse in the AL as far as RS. But the good news is that all that weirdness (sacrifices and that runner on 3rd thing) will go away hopefully.... The GIDP is problematic, but it has always been the last few seasons...

They could use more clutch hitting, yes...

The AL has higher offense than the NL, so basically the Twins have as close to league-average OPS as is possible. Somehow, it's translating to 10% fewer runs than average. I don't much subscribe to clutch hitting as a reason for anything at the major league level, but hopefully the run scoring moves up to match the OPS rather than the OPS "reverting" to the lower mean that the run scoring suggests.

It sure is frustrating to watch when then hit into the DPs or when they fail to move a runner over with no outs and end up stranding him. But compared to last year, you at least feel they have a chance to do something.

Way to put a curse on the team. Five hits, each of the last two games.

And their hitting has moved down to match their run scoring, rather than the reverse.
