Alex Burnett - DFA'd?
Burnett just tweeted a thanks to the organization; not something typical for someone simply being optioned.

He followed that tweet up by saying he's a Blue Jay.
Stay tuned...

Huh. If you get anything of value for a middle reliver, you made a great move.
Win Twins.

Sounds like a straight waiver-claim, no return.

Letting him go for nothing in return is a mistake... the guy is still only 25 and saw him pumping it up to 94-95 last year. Disapointed that we are selling 'low' after a poor Spring. I can think of 3-4 guys on the 40 man that I would have DFA over Burnett...

Looks like the Twins need a roster space. I'd assume they have their eye on someone

A spot for Wilikn Ramirez to have his 'contract purchased'.

Not sure what they got for him but not like you gave up a lot either.

Do we have official word on what happened here? He had an option, I thought. So that leaves either a trade or they took him off of the 40-man roster and subjected him to waivers. Huh.

Dan Gladden just said on the broadcast that the team tried to outright him to AAA, and he was claimed on waivers by the Blue Jays. It was done to create a spot for Ramirez.

The Twins placed Burnett on outright waivers and the Blue Jays claimed him, officially.

Well, good luck Alex. I think he was making progress coming into ST but it ended badly. Hopefully things work out with the Jays.

Well I didn't want him to make the team but I thought the potential was there for him to get better. I just have a feeling this might haunt the Twins.

I'm surprised the Jays had room for him. Aside from the blockbuster trades they made, it seemed to me they made a ton of waiver claims this offseason.

I'm not sure why the Twins were in such a rush to promote Burnett. He certainly got more opportunities than his performance merited.
That said, it's disappointing to give up on a 25 year old player. I don't think he'll be great, but he might have been better if the Twins had stashed him at AAA the last couple seasons.
