This really isn't a surprise. Arcia is going to be the key to wether or not Morneau or Willingham get traded. If he continues to rip the cover off the ball, he'll be up by July.

It's been said elsewhere that often it is the best prospects who are the ones cut first, once it becomes clear that there's nothing they can do the rest of spring training to make the big club. The injury seems to be the trigger for that with Arcia.

Also, if a player on the 40-man roster is injured, he stays on the major league roster until he is removed from the disabled list. If you know a prospect is not going to make it, you cut them early. You can also bring them back in to play in split squad games and such. What makes such a move a big deal, if they are in the majors, even injured, service time happens.

Got to see Arcia in a bunch of the ST games last week. He definitely looked behind the curve due to the injury. K'd in over half the plate appearances I saw, and pretty much all of them were ugly at-bats. It was as a bit disappointing, but not all that unexpected given the circumstances. Hopefully he gets caught up fast hitting wise, looked fine out in RF.

Unless he gets hurt or falls into a Benson-esque funk down at AAA he should be up for good as soon as Willy, Doumit or Morneau is traded.
