Berardino: Breaking down the pay scale for younger Twins players

    http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/20...nnesota-twins/

The Pioneer Press's Mike Berardino wrote an interesting blog explaining a little bit of how the Twins determine the contracts of the players in their pre-arbitration years. It's very interesting:

Raises are doled out in $2,500 increments, and pure service time isn’t enough to move up the ladder. Production — and not just the September call-up variety — is required.
The blog also tells us how much various Twins players will make in 2013 if they're with the Twins.

It is a great living even at the "minimal" wage a pre arbitration player.

Yes, but this is a career where employees often skip college then are washed up in their 30's.

The Pioneer Press made a great hire in Berardino. Good for the Pioneer Press, better for Twins fans.

Berardino's information was used to update the R&P Page earlier this morning. (Only discrepancy was previous info on Swarzak - Doogie says $502,500 vs. Berardino's "about $510,000".)

And then they can pay for their own collegiate education... if the team didn't include that in the signing bonus (usually pretty standard)
