Sounds like he's no longer a Twin.
Sent back to the White Sox. No surprise there, as he's looked awful this spring. P-Mac had a jarring stat: Doyle induced 1 swinging strike on 83 pitches in his last two starts. Yuck.
Too bad the Twins couldn't have put that No. 2 Rule 5 to better use, but oh well.
Oh well. Better that then try to have him on the 25 roster and not doing anything good for the team.
2 open spots on the 40-man roster now
Very glad they did not try to keep him in the system.
Going to be interesting to see who gets those two spots.
Not sure why Ryan waited so long. Good riddens!!!
Too bad. It would have been nice to have an effective sabermetric-minded pitcher in the bullpen.
I'll say this, Terry Ryan phase II appears to be willing to cut bait on mistakes, and not just keep them around to keep from looking bad. Refreshing change from other GMs in this market (Spielman....).
1 swinging strike in 83 pitches......that's 1 more than Duensing when he faces the Yankees.
I'll say this... when the changes happened a few years ago that allowed teams an extra year to evaluate players, there are fewer and fewer players drafted in the Rule 5, much less sticking with the team that drafts them. #1 overall Rule 5 picks generally don't stay with the team that picks them. So, it's not like it was a bad pick. Based on his career numbers and a solid scouting report, it was worth a shot. It just didn't work out this spring. He could still be a very solid big league pitcher with the White Sox. Can't base what he is on a few spring training innings.
