Deconstructing the Twins' Fabricated Fiscal Cliff
I do not understand why we, as Twins fans, allow the organization to get away with representing poverty when it is anything but! More on that here: Explaining the Twins? Fabricated Fiscal Cliff | Border Rivals. But, the long and short of it is that in the last three years, the Twins have had an operating income (read profit) of $70 million. In the last six years, that number doubles to $140 million.
So, instead of signing some of the higher priced free agents (Haren, Sanchez, Marcum, etc.), we get stuck with Kevin "Freakin'" Correia!?!? As was recently pointed out in a great post on this site about how sad that signing was, the guy is barely a 5th starter. I refuse to believe that if the Twins made a Godfather-offer to one of the semi-studs out there that we could not lock it down. Instead, the Twin's ring the poverty bell like they are a Salvation Army volunteer at Christmas. Very frustrating.
Is there anyway to fix this problem? Do we all need to have a bonfire on the Nicollet Mall and burn our "small market" badges?
