Guys coming off multiple rotator cuff surgeries aren't improving the pitching staff. If you aren't serious about competing just go with Deduno and Blackburn. Webb makes zero sense.

I'm fairly certain it would be a spring invite to see if he has anything.

I think that signing many veteran, marginal pitchers in hopes that one or two "stick" is pointless. Those used last year were "placeholders"--replacing them with older "placeholders" is not a step in the right direction. Seek pitchers who can help now and in the future--and could be signed to stay when the younger talent matures.

I'd rather see Webb in ST than the likes of Marquis/Livan/Ponson/Ortiz etc

Brett Myers is an interesting guy we could bring in for cheap, give him a 1 year 2.5 mil contract if you need to fill out the rotation.

I have no problem bringing in Webb (advocated it a couple years ago), but I seriously doubt he has anything left at this point, just make sure its a spring training invite only (and not a Zumaya contract)

Speaking of Zumaya, would it be worth giving him another shot? (no guaranteed money of course!)

    Yeah
I was thinking about that too... He better be there on a MiLB contract in ST after all the guaranteed $ Ryan paid him last season to blow his arm off...

Myers and Dempster seem logical choices for the Twins. Short term fixes that could be had on the cheap. I would be very surprised to see them swimming in the deep waters with Sanchez.

I would also love to see Webb and Zumaya in camp. Both have a proven history. If they can show some life, their experience would be beneficial.

I think he mentioned when he went down that he wanted to try to come back and pitch for the Twins. I'm sure there is at least a small part of him who feels he should give the Twins his first "chance"?

Joe BLanton, Brandon McCarthy, Scott Baker, Ryan Dempster, and Shawn Marcum

i predict Twins sign 2 of these 5.

    Plus trade for another.

my choice Baker, McCarthy, BLanton .

I'd pass on McCarthy, I don't trust anyone who suddenly rediscovers themselves pitching in the Oakland Colliseum. He's another low K/9 guy, the Twins have enough of them. The team needs to start targeting guys who have a legit shot at striking out a batter or two when the situation calls for it.

I like Myers, Baker, Dempster, Blanton, Marcum in that order but there are other options too.

    Myers Baker and....

This would leave the Twins the ability to trade Span or Revere for either Pitching prospects in Seattle or SS prospects with Cincinatti.

Myers for 2 years 16 million? Baker 1+ for 4 million and incentives and 8-10 million 2nd year option. and 3rd pitcher......

i think sign all , baker blanton marcum and dempster, yes that puts us way over the self imposed cap, but come the end of june , if we are not in the hunt or flat out leading the division , we trade 3 or 4 pitchers...to me with whats avalible in the minors even if we get to respectability, we are not going to sustain it with such glaring and obvious holes, we now seem to only beable to draft and develope centerfielders

    I Agree!

I agree. If not those 4 and a couple more!!!! This team needs 4 starters now that they let Baker and Liriano go.

Am I the only one who sees the signing of Kevin Correia as a given? This guy has got Twins written all over him - he wants to go somewhere that he'll know he will start, heh.

I'd avoid Dempster. He belongs in the NL, where they can't hit even his weak stuff.

As I recall, the Twins have not had much success hitting his weak stuff. On the other hand, I don't think that the Twins will bid enough to even have a shot at him.
