    Twins extend Glen Perkins

It is a 3 year $10.3 Million dollar extension. Smart deal for the Twins

Good for Glen, good for the Twins. As we have realized, you can't just completely gouge a bullpen and expect to be able to piece together a capable replacement.

Wow, that's could wind up being really low for a guy who's shown some lights-out, upper 90's stuff lately. Perk might become the best lefty closer in the league, and meanwhile he's certainly one of the best setup men.

Now if a couple more good relievers emerge from spring, they might just have most of a pitching staff...

Looks like a good deal for the Twins if he continues to pitch like he did in 2011. Not a huge money commitment overall, and if Perkins ends up moving to a closing role later, this becomes even more of a bargain.

That option for 2016 is absolutely beautiful for the team.

Definitely a good deal for both the Twins and Perk. Glad to see he'll be staying a Twin until at least 2016. The contract does have incentives if he does end up being the closer (not released yet), so it's tough to know if it'll for sure be a "bargain" if he moves to the closer role within the next 4 years.

If Perk pitches well enough to deserve a closer role, and reaches the incentives that come with it (Just being named closer will not kick in incentives... actually getting saves will) then this is a great deal. They locked up several years of a good reliever

The incentives have not been published yet, but it has been said that they are bases on Games Finished and not saves. So if he pitches to one batter to finish a 15-1 game, that counts as GF as well.

No matter what the incentives are, if Perk is reaching them he's at the bare minimum being paid market value.

Incentives would have to be ridiculously gawdy for this to be bad deal for the Twins considering how insane the top shelf reliever market has gotten.

Don't think your 15-1 will happen, so it's a very good deal for the Twins and Perkins! And if, the 15-1 happens, big deal.
I love having these guys under incentives, as they require production of a good kind!

Great article by Phil Mackey of 1500ESPN re: Perkins. Goes to show how things can change in a year when people on all sides can be adult and communicate with one another.
