I have no doubt that Herrmann will get a little playing time. But since he hasn't played in two weeks, I don't think having him sit against Sale and LIriano is a bad thing. While Mauer and Doumit are out I'd start him every game just to see what he's got. He can't do any worse then what Butera has been doing the past two years. You know what you have in Butera, a decent fielding weak batting catcher, why not find out what you have in Herrman?
Butera started season 9-25 over his first 8gms (7starts) w/3doubles for a .360/.385/.480 start & all the Butera lovers were sayin 'see, he's improved his hitting & is now a viable major league backup.
Since then.....3 days short of 4 full months
32gms (23starts) 12/78 4runs 2doubles HR 5rbi 23k 8bb for a line of .154/.250/.218.......how is that capable of sustaining a job in the majors ?
The .468OPS for these 4 months is LOWER than his career average of .499...he's hitting worse than he EVER has!!!
How is playing him over Chris Hermann fielding a better lineup vs a contender???
