Pohlad did say any decision about coaching or personnel changes would be made by Ryan. When asked whether he sensed Ryan wanted to make a managerial change, Pohlad said, "No, I do not."

I suppose it's news that it is solely Ryan's call on Gardenhire. I never got the sense that Smith had that kind of authority.
