If we really want to debate this thing, I think you can make a pretty strong argument that Parmelee should be playing right field while Span is out and Mastroanni should be either back on the bench or at second base. I'd argue the latter, but I'd be OK with the former, too. I think we have a decent idea of what Mastroianni can be as a hitter (though he's overperforming now) and we know how he is as a corner OF defender. Why not get answers on Parmelee (both offensively and defensively) and maybe Maestro at second?

After tonight's win, Rochester now 3.5 games out of Wild Card. Any chance Carson over Parmelee might have to do with Parmelee being more valuable to Rochester's playoff chase vs. sitting on the bench up in Minnesota? (Not saying I necessarily agree with this, just asking the question).

I'm siding with John on this one. If they thought Revere and Span would be out for a significant portion of time they would have called up Parmelee. I bet they think it will be a couple of days and wanted to give Carson some AB's and leave Parmelee where he is until they can call him up and leave him with the Twins. I don't really agree with their handling of him and Hendriks this season, but I can see why they are doing what they are (doesn't make it right).

I think the two are very different. Parmelee has crushed the ball every time he's had regular time in the lineup since September of last year. He needs to be in the Minnesota lineup.
On the other side of the coin, Hendriks failed miserably during his time in Minnesota. I think he was sent down for a very specific reason to prepare him for a ML rotation in 2013. I don't think the organization is down on him, I think the org is high on him but needs to see some changes before he heads back to the Twin Cities.
Basically, right now I can argue why the Twins don't have Hendriks starting every fifth day. I can't make the same argument why Parmelee isn't starting 4-5 times a week.

This really is the reason and you hit it hard. Rochester is a venue that most Major League teams covet and the Twins had to get a competitive team (or at least try) to keep their AAA team there. We're honestly really lucky to have Rochester and the retreads were the best we could do. The Red Wings have been the worst team in the two years prior to this.
Rochester's season is more important than the Twins season right now so in way I hesitantly say a little . It's not far-fetched and it may play a role, but I doubt and would hope that's not the entire basis of the transaction.Last edited by YourHouseIsMyHouse; 08-17-2012 at 12:49 AM. I like the move... Rochester is like 3-4 games out of a playoff spot. Let Parmelee, Dozier and Hendriks (and Vasquez) help them toward that, and if that comes up short, they'll all play a lot in September. Carson is a good right-handed bench bat, who should get a few starts in RF. It's also a good story.

I can agree with you and even think it was the right choice. BUT. Things need to get different quickly in the next few weeks. No more playing Carroll or bringing up guys that don't factor in. I want the end of this season to be about finding answers and clearing wasted roster spaces. We need to know who our bench bats are going to be going forward as well as a few of the obvious starting openings. Can Parm play OF? Is some sort of rotation at C/DH/1/Lf(should be Rf possible to get Doumit, Parm, Morneau, Mauer, and Willy roughly the same AB next year? Is Casilla done? Is Carroll worth the price or do we have a cheaper, younger alternative? I want to see guys with higher ceilings. This is the time where losing some games actually helps us. We shouldn't be experimenting in April next year.

I definitely agree wth those who say the remainder of this year should be about the 2013 and 2014 seasons...bring up kids who will be on roster next year like Parmalee and Dozier and Benson and play them.

Twins purchased the contract of OF Matt Carson from Triple-A Rochester.
Carson has batted .277 with a .785 OPS in 448 plate appearances at Rochester this season. The 31-year-old hasn't appeared in the major leagues since the 2010 season and doesn't figure to get a ton of playing time.

Twins sent OF Rene Tosoni outright to Triple-A Rochester.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Matt Carson. Tosoni has spent all year at Rochester, batting just .218/.299/.314 with three homers over 75 games.

Why should Carroll suddenly be benched? He is signed through next year and frankly has been the most constitent MI we have had. Casilla is all but gone at this point, and if the Twins want to know if Parm can play OF then they can give him those same innings in the field in AAA as they would in the majors. It's not like you need to have him playing for the Twins to determine how good/bad defensively he is.
I also disagree with your "get Doumit, Parm, Morneau, Mauer and Willingham" the same AB next year plan. Willingham has a .950 OPS, under no cicrumstances should he be in some bizzarro platoon, ditto with Mauer and a healthy/effective Morneau.

Twins MLB Draft Profile: Sean Manaea, SP
Who IS This Guy? He might have the highest ceiling of any pitching prospect in this year's draft class. A few years ago Sean Manaea was a raw high school kid with bad grades and no first-round...
