Melky Cabrera suspended for PEDs the Giants need someone can the Twins trade?
I think that any of Morneau, Willingham and Span would be a match, but I suspect that the last 2 will not clear waivers. Interesting to see what happens

There is zero chance that Span/Willingham would clear waivers, and I would have to imagine the Dodgers at the very least would block the Giants for Morneau (if he even made it that far)
With his recent resurgence I doubt the Twins would let Morneau go for just salary relief at this point anyways.

I suspect by now (8/15) everyone of the 3 passed waivers and Morneau might have cleared. Not for salary relief but for someone like Kyle Crick or Heath Hembree; it would be a nice deal for the Twins, plus they have a ready replacement in Parmelee. The Giants are hurting right now and might be a great chance for the Twins to do something. As is right now they are tied with the Dodgers for the division and trailing the Pirates half a game for the second WC spot...

First of all, the PED thing makes total sense. I was wondering how he turned it on the past two years. Bummer...Yes, let's hope the Twins can still make that one extra move.

I really liked Melky Cabrera and was a little disappointed. The Twins and Giants aren't going to be trade partners as a result of this and I suspect you were just trying to get it into the more popular Twins Talk sub-forum. Not that I care too much though.

I like the idea but not the players. I think Hembree's still out with an elbow injury. Crick is a decent A ball prospect but he's not enough for the Twins to give up Morneau. Dodgers were rumored to have given up two pitching prospects (Gould was one) for Carlos Lee but Lee vetoed the trade.

This is actually probably bad news for the Twins. The Dodgers were more obvious trade partners, and the Giants losing Cabrera gives the Dodgers a boost. They are much more likely to make the playoffs now (and the Giants much less). They still might want to make a trade, but why do they need to make a trade when their main competition is shooting themself in the foot?

I don't think they get there without Cabrera. Timmy just can't pitch any more. I think the dodger's will come out on top of this one.

This assumes that a. they will be in the post-season b. will actually be playing 5 games into the post-season and c. Cabrera will stay in shape working out with himself or with a college or high school team or something...
If the season ended today, they would not be in the post-season (Dodgers have the tie-breaker)-----
