    How enforced is the deadline?

Can teams work on non-waiver trades after the deadline, or do they have to announce the trade to get an extension past the deadline on talks?

Paperwork has to be submitted by the deadline as far as I know.

Yeah I've always understood the deal has to be done and in to the MLB office by the firm deadline. Of course, that doesn't mean it's reported immediately. Could be some time before last minute deals are announced to media.

Dick and Bert mentioned that a deal had to be approved by the commissioner by the dead line. That was coming from Dick and Bert, so who knows how accurate that info is.
