Here is what they got back (prospect rankings in Angels' organization and overall according to BA) :

SS Jean Segura #2 (#55 overall)
    RHP Johnny Hellweg #4

Segura definaely a plus ..... Hellweg has massive control problems & is fringe IMO but Pena has been outstanding in AA & is the 2nd piece that'll be a major league starter

The Brewers controlled Grienke for 2 years when dealing for him, not 2-3 months.....

The Brewers were seeking top-20 guys to headline a deal with other teams, but they take a guy who wasn't a top-50 guy. In the midseason top 120 that John Sickels did, Segura was #78, and Hellweg was an honorable mention. I figured at least three of Segura, Garrett Richards, CJ Cron, Kaleb Cowart, Hellweg, or Taylor Lindsay would be part of anything for Greinke from the Angels.

Rental players have less value this year.

The receiving team can not get the comp picks. The trading team knows that they will get one pick instead of two if they retain the player. Both work to lessen the value of the player.

And the reported asking price has started with Julio Teheran in Atlanta, with Mike Olt in Texas, and Xander Bogaerts from the Red Sox, then they take Segura as the headliner. Seems like way too little.

Seems too little, but the three far exceed the value of one comp pick after the first round. The biggest mistake would be to do nothing. They had to take the best deal on the table. The Twins will be in the same position with Liriano. Maybe worse. They may not risk offering him 12.5 million to get the comp pick.

This is good. They got a decent package for him, and the angels are off the market. The angels were the team we didn't match up nearly as well with...
