If not, that is a huge two-year drop in payroll, especially if the much-desired "trade Span for prospects" move happens as well.

A Span trade must happen if we want to contend by 2014 at the earliest. I would say a Ben Revere trade also but he wouldn't have much trade value with his current play.

I really don't think Hamels is an Ace at all. No way the Twins will ever drop $18.5 for a pitcher. But, they also paid a hometown PREMIUM for a catcher so so never know.....
