This Thursday night, from 5-8, there is a unique and fairly intimate Twins event going on that I want to let you all know about. Tix for Tots and the Twins are co-hosting a fundraiser to help Tix for Tots distribute unused tickets from all over the Twin Cities to underprivileged kids.


It'll have four of your favorite things:

Twins - The event is in Located in the Metropolitan Club at our favorite hangout…Target Field. It will include an opportunity to talk Twins with Hall of Famer Paul Molitor, KFAN'S "Twins Geek" John Bonnes and noted Minnesota baseball historian Stew Thornley. The exclusive Q&A format allows attendees to ask those burning questions they most want answered.

The Twins lost for the second straight game to the Texas Rangers on Saturday. The story of the game was all of the runners stranded on bases, but it was a day full of stories for the Twins. The Yu Darvish Show made its first appearance at Target Field, and the right-hander from Japan didn’t disappoint. He showed all seven of his pitches and did a nice job of working out of some tough situations. Just before the game started, it came out that the Twins had claimed Clete Thomas, an outfielder who was DFAd by the Tigers. They made the easy 40 man roster choice by putting Scott Baker on the 60 Day Disabled List.

The Twins two-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night with a 4-1 loss at the hands of lefty Matt Harrison and the Texas Rangers. Anthony Swarzak gave up four runs in seven innings. He was seeing-eye-singled to death in the 4^th when the Rangers started swinging at Swarzak’s first pitch and scored three times. Ian Kinsler added a little insurance with a solo home in the 7^th. For the first time this season, the Twins scored first in this game. Josh Willingham scored on a screaming liner to left off the bat of Danny Valencia. Ryan Doumit had two hits in the game. Josh Willingham had a single, a walk and was hit by a pitch. Jared Burton and Matt Maloney each threw a strong inning in relief.

The Twins will get to see Yu Darvish on Saturday at noon. Nick Blackburn will be making his second start of the homestand. Liam Hendriks will pitch on Sunday.

There were plenty of highlights in the Twins minor league system on Friday night despite going just 2-2 on the night. Here is a look at the night in the minors. ...

The first week of Twins baseball has not been perfect by any means but the team has shown signs of life in the last couple of days. Those games were against two very good pitchers from the Angels, Jared Weaver and Dan Haren, so the team might be moving in the right direction. In a rare occurrence on Thursday afternoon, Joe Mauer hit a home run at Target Field for only the second time since the stadium opened in 2010. Besides glimmers of hope, the Twins offense needs to continue on it's upward trejectory if the team wants to find success in 2012. ...

The Twins got Win #1 in Game #5, and that has to be a relief to all the players, coaches, the manager and the front office. As a fan, it’s kind of nice as well! A very nice 6-5, come-from-behind win. At various times, Josh Willingham, Chris Parmelee, Jamey Carroll, Glen Perkins and Matt Capps played hero. Jeff Gray gets the win! Congrats to the Twins on the win.

The minor league affiliates won three of their four games on Wednesday. In unusual fashion, two of the Twins affiliates played games in the morning. A couple of pitchers with limited time with the Twins pitched well for the Red Wings, while a future Twins player returned to action. The Rock Cats gave up some runs, but a top prospect added another double. The Miracle held on to a lead and getting a big home run from a guy who homered in a game with the Twins late in spring training. And a Minnesota native had a nice game with a lot of strikeouts to record a win for the Snappers.
