    This week's series against the first-place White Sox will serve as a tough test for this Twins team. They've rebounded after a lousy start to go 13-10 over their last 23 games, remaining on the periphery of an AL Central race that no club seems poised to run away with. In three days, the Twins could conceivably be within 5.5 games of first place. They could also find themselves out of it by double digits.

    Perhaps no one will be under a bigger microscope in this crucial showdown than Francisco Liriano. ...

    Coming off a disastrous 6-0 loss last night, both the Twins pitching and offense looks to get back on track behind their wins leader, Scott Diamond. Countering for the Reds is Mike Leake, a righty pitching in his third season with the club. Which Diamond will show up today for Minnesota? Will the offense break out of its slump and score more than twice? When do we get to stop watching Twins pitchers flail at baseballs like a little leaguer?

    While the Twins were winning the opening game of their series with the Reds Friday night, I was spending just about a perfect night watching minor league baseball. The Beloit Snappers (the Twins’ Midwest League affiliate) opened the second half of their season here in Cedar Rapids against the Kernels.

    The big club lost 6-0 to the Reds this evening. Starter Brian Duensing threw 3 shutout innings, and then hit a wall (his own words), giving up 4 runs in the 4th. The Twins accumulated only 3 hits all day. In the end, it was a recipe for yet another loss. All the affiliates were in action today, so let's take a look at all of the action.

    Powered last night by a hit attack from Ben Revere and Ryan Doumit, the Twins rallied and defeated the Cincinnati Reds 5-4. Blackburn pitched a typical 5IP, 4ER stat line but this time, it was enough for the Twins to come out on top. In today's game, Brian Duensing gets a spot start against the Reds' Johnny Cueto. Will the Reds stack the lineup with right-handers against Duensing? After last night's 4-for-4 effort by Doumit and Revere, who will step forward for the Twins' offense today?

    As always, we'll be discussing ...

    The Twins started their three-game series at The Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati against the Reds with a 5-4 win. Ben Revere and Ryan Doumit each had four hits, and the Twins got another four shutout innings from their bullpen to hold the win for Nick Blackburn who went the first five innings.

    It seems like every week or two, there is a pitcher who is designated for assignment by a team. In the Twins Daily Forums, we discuss whether or not the Twins should consider claiming him or not. This article is no different.

    On Friday, the Texas Rangers added Roy Oswalt to their 40 man roster. To make room for him, Mark Hamburger was Designated for Assignment.

    Hamburger is a Minnesota native who went to Mesabi Range CC and later signed with the Twins after a tryout camp at the Metrodome. In 2008, he was closing for the Elizabethton Twins when he learned that he had been traded to the Texas Rangers for Eddie Guardado. He climbed consistently up the Rangers ladder. In 2011, he began the season in AA, advanced to AAA And made five appearances for the Rangers in September. Although he wasn't on the Rangers' playoff rosters, he was allowed in the dugout and clubhouse. What an experience. ...

    Coming off an ugly 9-1 loss against the Pirates and a 1-2 series loss in Pittsburgh, the Twins look to get back on track against the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds, fresh off a series sweep in Clevelend, turn to Homer Bailey (5-4, 4.03) for the start while the Twins counter with Nick Blackburn (stats too ugly to mention). The Twins struggled again McDonald last night; will they be able to get back on track against Bailey? Will Blackburn pitch better than the 5 IP, 4 ER lines he has been churning out lately? Should I just go watch ...

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Last night's Twins game got ugly in later portions of the game with Jeff Manship giving up some bombs. One of the home runs even took one bounce and was out of the stadium. Overall, it wasn't the best series but the Twins did manage to pull out one victory. Francisco Liriano and Liam Hendriks put together one of their best starts of the year in the series and Josh Willingham had a late inning home run to lead the team to victory.
    Fresh off the gem pitched by Liriano last night, the Twins come into the rubber game against Pittsburgh facing James McDonald, one of the Pirates' breakout starters of 2012. The righty has held opponents under a .200 BAA while striking out just shy of one hitter per inning. The Twins are countering with Liam Hendriks making his second start since his recall from Rochester, where he impressed the club with a dominant May. Hendriks struggled against the Brewers in his last start, giving up eight hits in five innings (two of them earned). What do you expect to see from Hendriks tonight? ...
    I could be a Pirates fan.
    Believe me, I know all that implies. As a middle-aged Twins fan, I've felt Pirates fans' pain, albeit in lesser doses. I can sympathize with the hopelessness and even apathy that sets in after years of mismanagement.
    Watching the supposedly competitive Bucs yesterday didn't inspire me to join them anytime soon. ...
