Twins Minor League Report (5/25): Gibson's Latest Pitch

There were several stories to follow with the Twins minor league teams on Saturday. Kyle Gibson was back on the mound, looking to put together back-to-back good starts for the first time this season. How did he do? New Britain finished a suspended game and played a second game. Matt Summers was terrific in Ft. Myers. Jorge Polanco was very good and JO Berrios was back on the mound for the Kernels.

The big news of the night was that DJ Baxendale has been promoted to New Britain. Baxendale was the Twins minor league pitcher of the month for April, and in 28 innings in May, he did not allow an earned run.

Lefty Matt Tomshaw will head down to Ft. Myers to make a start for the Miracle. It’s quite possible that there are

Ain't no sunshine when the Twins are on
I'm not sure they know how to play.

On a less depressing note...
Twins Minor League Report (5/23): Baxendale, Darnell Shine

I’ve been following the Twins minor league system pretty much daily for the past eight years. I can honestly say that I have not seen a pitcher have an opening stretch like DJ Baxendale has had this season. His May numbers (see below) have been incredible. But there were other great performances including a 22-year-old southpaw throwing eight innings in New Britain. And Ft. Myers continues to get offense from unlikely sources.

Check out what happened in the Twins minor league system on Thursday:

Rochester Red Wings 4, Charlotte Knights 3
Twins MLB Draft Profile: Ryne Stanek, RHP

Ryne Stanek (6’ 4, 190) is a right-handed pitcher for the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Mariners selected him in the 3rd round of the 2010 draft, but Stanek elected

Twins Minor League Report (5/20): Sano Powers Miracle

The Twins losing streak went to seven games with a tough loss in Atlanta. They’ll have to get over it quickly for a noon game (Eastern) on Wednesday. Twins Daily has learned that Chris Colabello will be attempting to join the Twins in time for the game.

Virgil Vasquez made a spot start in place of the promoted Sam Deduno. Trevor May had one of the craziest line scores you’ll see. One Twins minor leaguer hit a homer for the third straight game on Tuesday, and it isn’t the same guy who homered twice on the day. Cedar Rapids had a well-deserved day off.

Here is what happened in the Twins minor league

Q & A With Travis Harrison

One of the top ranked high school power hitters at the time, Travis Harrison was drafted by the Twins with a supplemental first round pick (the 50th overall pick) in 2011. He signed a $1.05 million bonus to join the Twins organization and bypassed a scholarship offer to play baseball for USC. There's never been much doubt about Harrison's ability to hit a baseball. The question in many minds is what his ultimate defensive position will be. Right now, the Twins are working with Harrison to develop his skills at third base for the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Harrison is one of the top third base prospects in the Twins minor league organization, along with super-prospect Miguel Sano, who is currently playing for high Class A Fort Myers.<br

Rock Cats: A Tough Week-Plus

Just like their parent club, the New Britain Rock Cats have hit a tough spell. In fact, their last victory was May 11 vs. Portland and since that 5-4 win the Cats have lost 8 consecutive games. In those 8 games, the Rock Cats have combined to score a grand total of 18 runs while allowing 52. It's not tough to see the problems: they aren't scoring enough and are allowing too many runs. (How's that for analysis?).

But let's dig a little deeper. There are other things -- some good -- at play. First, infielder James Beresford, who had been on the disabled list with a pulled groin, just returned to

Twins Minor League Report (5/20): Pitching - FAIL.

A couple of feel-good notes from earlier today:

Minnesota native and former St. Paul Saint, LRP Caleb Thielbar was recalled and will take the roster spot of LP Pedro Hernandez. He was impressive in his big-league debut as well. (The TwinsDaily Roster & Payroll page has been updated to reflect this move as well as all the others that have occurred.)

Chris Colabello was named IL Player of the Week for last week when he batted .586 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI. Rob Antony said over the weekend that he is under consideration to be called up to help the Twins. He also played some corner

Twins Minor League Report (5/19): Gibson, Richardson, Colabello Star

The Twins and the Red Sox had a nice three hour rain delay, and fans were treated to The Sandlot during the delay. There was plenty of excitement in the Twins minor league system as well. One of the Twins' top prospects almost made a little bit of history. One of the Twins minor league affiliates won on a walk off. A couple of non-roster players continued to make their cases for a big league roster spot.

With that, check out what happened with the Twins minor league teams on Sunday:
