  • Series Preview: Twins @ Royals, 6/4-6/6

The Twins arrive in Kansas City red hot, winning six of seven against the hapless Brewers and Mariners. Fortunately for the Twins, the Kansas City Royals are playing bad baseball, winning just three of their last 17 games.

Kansas City had high hopes going into the season, acquiring James Shields and Ervin Santana to bolster their pitching staff and relying on young position players to make a playoff push for the first time in a decade. The pitching staff has come through, posting the 11th-best ERA in Major League Baseball but the hitting has faltered, posting just a .679 OPS, good for 26th in MLB.

The Twins look to climb back toward .500 after a miserable month of May. Can they inch closer to contention against the Royals?

Rumor has it the Indians would be willing to trade Matt Capps if the right offer of a young catcher comes along.

They won't part with Capps. They are in contention... Buyers not sellers... Jeez Ashbury... Get your game face on. First pitch is almost upon us.

Tribe's falling fast. By the trading deadline they'll be down among the Royals and White Sox as the dregs of this otherwise strong division.

/ edit - oh, and as for my game face, doesn't my avatar say it all?

All right, let's do this! Tonight, Kansas Citians will drown their sorrows as they leave the stadium shaking their heads at the awesome display of Twins Baseball that is about to hit them.

Speaking of Matt Capps, Wilson Ramos is on the DL for the second time this year. I think he's played in something like 10 games so far. Poor guy.

Except for Plouffe being out and Carroll in his place, this is kind of the A-team starting lineup Gardy's put out there. (Modulo any disagreements about how "A-team" and certain individuals belong together in concept.)

I gotta admit... For an older stadium... The Royals still have one of the most beautiful parks in all the land.

Has anyone noticed that Mauer is on pace for about 150 strikeouts this year?

/ answer - yes, pretty much every blogger in the universe...

Dick noted that everyone in KC is wondering where Eric Hosmer's power went. My guess: same place as Justin Morneau's...
