Last week, I took a look at three prep hitters that I hope the Twins seriously consider drafting in next month’s draft. I decided to expand the series and today will take a look at three college arms.

To be considered a “personal cheeseball”, I set out two rules: be a favorite of mine and don’t be too good.

Without further adieu, here are my three college pitchers: ...

Numbers are so clean. Until they aren’t.

Yesterday we studied strikeouts/game and runs/game for teams and found a “correlation coefficient,” which is a number between -1 and 1. 1 means there is a perfect correlation, like the temperature in Fahrenheit and the temperature in Celsius. -1 means there is a perfectly negative correlation, like the amount I spend and my checking account balance. And 0 means there is no correlation, like the amount I spend and the temperature in Celsius.

Unfortunately, the number we found was not 1, 0 or -1. It was .54. So what does that mean? ...

By the end of the coming weekend, the Twins will have reached the one-quarter mark of the season with 40+ games under their belts. It’s as good a time as any to reflect upon how some of the decisions made by General Manager Terry Ryan in building the team’s roster have turned out.

As a team, the Twins have been hovering over the .500 mark most of the season and, after Monday night’s win over the White Sox, they are one game over the break-even point. Over the weekend, Ryan told 1500ESPN that .500 wasn’t what he was looking for out of this team, that he wanted them to be contenders. It’s great, of course, for your team’s GM to say that kind of thing, but I think most fans would have been pretty satisfied with the prospects of a .500 year out of this Twins team. ...

Overall, it was not a good day for the Minnesota Twins’ minor league affiliates. However, you’ll want to see what the Cedar Rapids Kernels’ most productive and most exciting hitters did on Tuesday.

Kyle Gibson was back on the mound for the first time since his complete game shutout. How did the Red Wings right-hander follow up his strong performance? Antoan Richardson performed the duties of leadoff hitter very well. Cedar Rapids also made several transactions.

Check out what happened in the Twins farm system on Tuesday: ...

In what is thought of as one of the greatest Simpsons episodes of all-time, Nuclear Power Plant owner turned softball manager, C. Montgomery Burns gave one of his ringers, Daryl Strawberry, an invaluable hitting tip.

“You there. Strawberry. Hit a home run,” advised the decrepit hitting instructor. Strawberry took the counsel and smacked a dinger onto the Springfield Expressway. In a perfect world designed by major league hitting coaches, life would be that easy.

It's getting close to the end of the first fourth of the season and the Twins are still flirting with the .500 mark. There is a lot of baseball left to play but it has been an encouraging first portion of the season for Twins fans. Some surprise pitching performances, a good offense and a stingy bullpen have the club in range of the top of the division.

So how did this Twins team get here and is this pace sustainable for the remainder of the season? ...

Coming into the game, Minnesota Twins centerfielder Aaron Hicks had a hitting line of .137/.239/.216 (.455). He had just five extra base hits in the first 30 games. He had struggled on defense as well as with the bat.

    And then came Monday night.

After popping up in his first at-bat, Hicks came to the plate to lead off the 4th inning. He launched a long home run, 416 feet to straight-away centerfield. ...

The RockCats, losing Richardson to Rochester, get Deibinson Romero, who finally arrived in the States and is ready to play baseball.

The Miracle activated OF Nate “That Pitch Hit Me” Roberts and sent INF Joel Licon back across the street. ...

It has been a season of streaks so far this year for Joe Mauer.

Things started well in the first couple weeks of the season. Through 14 games, he was hitting .393/.439/.574 with two home runs and five doubles. His batting average was high, he was hitting the ball out of the park and the Minnesota Twins were surprising the experts with their .500 record.

Over the next twelve games things were not quite so pretty for Mr. Mauer. ...

Welcome to 25 drafts in 25 days! Over the next few weeks, I will be writing brief recaps of the last 25 drafts in Twins' history. This will all culminate with the 2013 draft, when the Twins will select 4th overall. I know that the MLB draft isn't as hyped as the NBA or NFL draft, due to the age and experience of the players involved, but the draft is an important tool used to build a franchise, especially for the Twins. This coming draft is extremely important, as the Twins have the opportunity ...

Before coming home to face the Orioles for three games at home, Minnesota made a trip around the American League, faced three over .500 teams, and returned with a 5-5 record.

Upon greeting the Orioles for three games, they immediately decided to pitch three consecutive games of batting practice, allowing 23 runs over the weekend set.

Thankfully, the Orioles are gone and the Twins are set to welcome the Chicago White Sox to Target Field. The White Sox and their unbalanced attack of no-hitting, excellent pitching may be the needed ingredient for the Twins

Kyle Gibson is anxious to finally reach the big leagues, and he's currently making a strong case in Triple-A with a 3.32 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through seven starts. His most recent outing was his most impressive: a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts, two walks and four hits.

Gibson is on an innings limit this year and has already logged 40 innings in Rochester, increasing the urgency to call him up soon so he can spend time adjusting to the majors, thus preparing himself for a full, successful season in 2014. But space is limited in the Twins' rotation and Gibson is not the only one vying for a spot.

Three minor league affiliates played on Sunday. The two upper-level minor league affiliates played very good, close ball games. Ft. Myers had a day off. The game in Beloit on Sunday was just crazy. You’ll note the final score looks much more like a football score than a baseball score. That is all good news for the Kernels hitters. It certainly doesn’t speak well for the Kernels starters on this day. Consider this early preview… Kernels outfielders (JD Williams, Byron Buxton and Adam Walker combined to go 9-15 with four doubles, a triple, two home runs, 11 runs scored and 13 runs batted in.
