Revisiting The Twins Swaps In 16

Posted by Off The Baggy in Off The Baggy, 28 September 2016 · 378 views

During the 2016 season, it was apparent nearly from the get go that the Minnesota Twins would need to be sellers. Now sure, that's a bit unfair, but an 0-9 start never got better, and now sitting at over 100 losses, this team struggled in all facets of the game. The organization did make a couple of swaps that likely had the future in mind though, so how...

Rating the Twins' Offense in a League Without the Twins

In a miserable season destined for 100 losses, Twins fans can be sure that their team is a mess. But as the Sept. 18 episode of Gleeman and the Geek points out, most of that mess is as a result of just one side of the ball: pitching and defense. Aaron and John noted that the Twins are actually fairly decent when it comes to hitting, and raised an interes...

Never Forget

Posted by SD Buhr in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket, 11 September 2016 · 317 views

There really isn't a "category" here at Twins Daily for a post of this type (and maybe it's not appropriate here at all), but I posted this over at Knuckleballsblog.com this morning and thought I would share it here, as well. Just a few reflections on this, the 15th anniversary of 9/11.

It's incredible to think that there is now almost a complete gen...

Twins Almanac: Dozier Edition Here's my quick kitchen table roundup of all of the trivia surrounding Dozier's big day.

Brian Dozier is the sixth player in Twins history to homer three times in a game, j oining Bob Allison and Harmon Killebrew (1963), Tony Oliva ('73), Justin Morneau ('07) and Max Kepler who homered three times on August 1st this season in Cleveland.

Thoughts on Brian Dozier

power, second base, trade target and 2 more...

Let me preface what will undoubtedly be a long entry by saying I am a Dozier fan. I have spoken to him at Spring Training a couple of times and like the young man. I believe he has been the Twins MVP for each of the last four seasons (counting this one) and I have no doubt that he is the team's best player at this point. Certainly, he isn't flawless, but...

2017 roster

Posted by Shane Wahl in Field of Twins, 04 September 2016 · 843 views

I love the non-insane idea of a lineup that looks like this:

Buxton
Mauer
Dozier
Kepler
Sano
Vargas
Polanco
Rosario
Garver/Murphy

Backup catcher, Escobar, Park, and Palka/Walker on the bench.

Santana
May
Berrios
Gibson
Santiago

Pressly
O'Rourke
Hughes
Tonkin
Rogers
Duffey
X

I am really not sure about the bullpen. Perkins might be done. Kintzler canno...

Follow up rant to the 'insanity' thread

Posted by Hosken Bombo Disco in Hosken's Blog, 03 September 2016 · 628 views

In the spirit of putting stream-of-conscious rants in the blogs section, where nobody will ever see them or have to look at them, I submit this frustrated piece of work in response to the insanity thread poster Shane Wahl started. You have been warned!

Another angle I come at this insanity from is the public messaging; in other words, the people who cov...

Posting styles discussing our frustrations about the Twins

Posted by ChiTownTwinsFan in In My Opinion, 02 September 2016 · 803 views

In light of some posting styles we have been seeing lately on TD, I thought I'd do some venting of my own ... in a blog. The thread that broke this camel's back was this thread , 'It is time to end the insanity.' I've been meaning to address this for a while now, and have here and there in threads when posts become nothing more than venting general frustr...

One of the great things about being a baseball fan is you can always find plenty to be positive about if you’re willing to look hard enough. While 2016 has been a bleak year for the Twins, having 100-plus players in the organization means there are 100-plus opportunities to find some bright spots.

It’s no secret that the biggest issue for the Twins has b...

Perhaps the Twins should be run more like a business

Posted by glunn in Blog glunn, 29 August 2016 · 624 views

There has been lots of discussion of Jim Pohlad's diagnosis of "total system failure." The owners are business people who rely on baseball experts to run the team, In one interview, Mr. Pohlad said the following:

"I’m the type to stand back and let the manager do his job. That’s something I learned from my dad, he would find people he could relate to and...

Twins Minor League Report (8/23): Wheeler Dominates, Kennys Hit Ball Far

Posted by Steve Lein in The Hanging SL, 23 August 2016 · 403 views

It was a low-scoring night throughout the system Tuesday, but that means there were several good pitching performances for the Twins affiliates. As an organization, they combined for just 19 runs (2.7 per game) on the day, but because of those performance went 5-2 on the day in the minor leagues.

To see which other starting pitchers came through besides...

The Bomber Bully deposited Twins lefty Jim Merritt's curve into the lower, leftfield stands at Metropolitan Stadium, in Bloomington.

More importantly, it was his swan song, his arrivederci to Minnesota fans. Check it out....

Posted by huhguy in Blog huhguy, 14 August 2016 · 1,022 views

1- I want to see Mitch Garver catch almost all the games until the end of the regular season.

2. I want to see Gonsalves called up and pitch in the rotatation

3. I want to see Granite called up and play every day

Did we ever receive a player for Arcia?

Now is the time to trade Dozier

Posted by huhguy in huhguy's Blog, 11 August 2016 · 589 views

Dozier is phenomenal, I would hate to see him go, that said, now is the time to trade him. Here is what I think we could get for him, a potential starting catcher, a close to ready starting pitcher and an A ball throw in, I hate to do it, but Polanco is clearly ready to take over and we can recharge the team with the return.

So You Want to Make a Deal

Posted by nicksaviking in nicksaviking blog, 27 July 2016 · 937 views

I can feel it, the anxiety around here is building, people are dying for some trade news. When the Twins were good they were loathe to part with young players to improve the club, when the club was bad they were so bad that they didn't have anything worth trading. Now we sit here with perhaps not exciting, but certainly plentiful trade chips. There have b...
