Who Gets The Call In September?

Posted by Off The Baggy in Off The Baggy, 29 August 2016 · 149 views

The Minnesota Twins have played a lot of bad baseball in 2016. With the worst record in the American League, 49-81, the lone team below them in all of baseball is the hapless Atlanta Braves. In a matter of days though, we could see an influx of prospects from the farm as big league rosters expand. For a team looking for something of interest, this could b...

Perhaps the Twins should be run more like a business

Posted by glunn in Blog glunn, 29 August 2016 · 236 views

There has been lots of discussion of Jim Pohlad's diagnosis of "total system failure." The owners are business people who rely on baseball experts to run the team, In one interview, Mr. Pohlad said the following:

"I’m the type to stand back and let the manager do his job. That’s something I learned from my dad, he would find people he could relate to and...

And here is the Twins Almanac for Monday, August 29 to Friday, September 2, 2016. Mrs. Johnson broke the internet at my folks' place where we're staying, so I'm posting this from across the pasture at my sister's house. I kind of forgot about this whole humidity thing here in Minnesota. It's alright, though, I'm just pretending I'm on safari.

Have The Twins Mishandled Mitch Garver?

mitch garver

It has already been an interesting year in terms of how the Twins have deployed their players defensively. From Miguel Sano moving all over the place, to Jorge Polanco going from no reps a shortstop in the minors to the everyday guy there on the big club, there have been some decisions that have been worthy of questioning.

Well, the questioning seems to...

Twins Minor League Report (8/23): Wheeler Dominates, Kennys Hit Ball Far

Posted by Steve Lein in The Hanging SL, 23 August 2016 · 263 views

It was a low-scoring night throughout the system Tuesday, but that means there were several good pitching performances for the Twins affiliates. As an organization, they combined for just 19 runs (2.7 per game) on the day, but because of those performance went 5-2 on the day in the minor leagues.

To see which other starting pitchers came through besides...

Your dose of history from my vat of Twins facts / folklore.

It's the Mickey Mantle Homerun Video , from the game of August 22, 1968.

The Bomber Bully deposited Twins lefty Jim Merritt's curve into the lower, leftfield stands at Metropolitan Stadium, in Bloomington.

More importantly, it was his swan song, his arrivederci to Minnesota fans. Check it out....

Posted by huhguy in Blog huhguy, 14 August 2016 · 851 views

1- I want to see Mitch Garver catch almost all the games until the end of the regular season.

2. I want to see Gonsalves called up and pitch in the rotatation

3. I want to see Granite called up and play every day

Did we ever receive a player for Arcia?

Now is the time to trade Dozier

Posted by huhguy in huhguy's Blog, 11 August 2016 · 463 views

Dozier is phenomenal, I would hate to see him go, that said, now is the time to trade him. Here is what I think we could get for him, a potential starting catcher, a close to ready starting pitcher and an A ball throw in, I hate to do it, but Polanco is clearly ready to take over and we can recharge the team with the return.

Kernels on the Links

Every year, a number of Cedar Rapids Kernels players and coaches spend one of their off-days sweating on a golf course with a bunch of people willing to shell out a couple dollars (actually a bit more) for the pleasure of sharing their company as they knock a little white ball about 6,000 yards around a local golf course to benefit the organization’s chil...

Back on June 11, the Minnesota Twins were defeated by the Boston Red Sox 15-4, giving up 10 runs over the final two innings to let an otherwise close game get out of reach.

It wasn’t just another loss in another losing season. It was noteworthy because it gave fans their first look at J. T. Chargois, a highly-touted, hard-throwing pitching prospect from...

So You Want to Make a Deal

I can feel it, the anxiety around here is building, people are dying for some trade news. When the Twins were good they were loathe to part with young players to improve the club, when the club was bad they were so bad that they didn't have anything worth trading. Now we sit here with perhaps not exciting, but certainly plentiful trade chips. There have b...

The End of the Terry Ryan Era Terry Ryan was fired on Monday, July 18 as the Minnesota Twins General Manager. Ryan was the Twins GM from 1994-2007 and again from 2011 until now.

The end of his career will be marred by some of the worst seasons in Twins history. That, along with the current worst record in baseball, led to Ryan's demise.

It shouldn't be what defines him.

Searching for Radke

Brad Radke was drafted 25 years ago. He arrived in 1995 and averaged over 30 starts a year through 2006. The Twins haven't developed a pitcher of his quality since. I wondered about today's better pitchers. What were their numbers in the minors? In particular I wondered about strike outs and walks. Those numbers are relatively fielding independent.

All-Star Break Thoughts

At the All-Star break, the Twins sit with a terrible 32-56 record and it is only that good because they've won the last three series against three AL West clubs. For most of the season, the Twins have scored the fewest runs in the AL while allowing the most. I wasn't totally surprised that the Twins pitching staff was bad, but it just doesn't seem right t...
