Let's Lease a Yeti!

Why can't Target Field have a yeti?

Even a dedicated master of the art of SUPERNATURAL BASEBALL has trouble cobbling together enough words to delve into the spirit of this wonderful sport. It's difficult enough to put on a face to open your door in these days of late, late winter. No baseball cap upon your head but instead a STOCKING CAP where the pom po...

Odorizzi Shows Importance of Warmth

Thus far the Minnesota Twins have played just 12 games during the 2018 Major League Baseball season. When they have played, they've been met with suboptimal weather conditions more often than not. Playing in 80 degree heat against the Cleveland Indians down in Puerto Rico, Jake Odorizzi may have unintentionally displayed just how much of an effect the wea...

Possible Postponment of 2nd Game of Twins / Indians in PR

weather

Don't know for sure if this will affect tonight's game or not, but it just came across the news that the whole (yes the WHOLE) island of PR has lost power and initially, it is not expected to be restored for 24 to 36 hours.

But on a more humanitarian note, this really stinks for the residents of PR.

Being a Twins fan, and a statistics major, there are always connections to be made between on the field performance and statistics for a player. This has never been more available as statcast has allowed for measuring exit velocities, launch angles, and many other statistics for both pitchers and hitters. I wanted to look into which of these statistics ha...

The other guy always looks better than your own The other guy is always better than what you have – right? Well that is the thought that dominates the off-season and so we are sad that we did not sign Yu Darvish (actually if you saw my posts you know I did not want him). Since we had an article looking at the first ten days and projecting the season I thought it might be good to see what we missed....

Ben Rortvedt: the catcher of the future After struggling his previous two seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization, Rortvedt is on fire to start 2018. He is finally coming into his own and becoming the catcher many thought he would become when drafted in the second round out of high school in 2016. After two subpar years, the great Tom Froemming and I were still high really high on Rortvedt....

How Does Royce Lewis Compare to Previous #1 Picks

Posted by Travis M in Travis M's Blog, 08 April 2018 · 1,496 views

How Does Royce Lewis Compare to Previous #1 Picks In 2017, Royce Lewis was a standout player on and off the field. Last year he hit .279/.360/.407 with the Gulf Coast League Twins and the Cedar Rapid Kernels. His exceptional skills made me wonder. How does he stack up against previous #1 draft picks out of High School?

There is no doubt that Ken Griffey Jr. was the best #1 pick out of High School. Howev...

2018 WAR for Byron Buxton

Posted by Bryan Borchardt in The Circleback Blog, 06 April 2018 · 1,651 views

For the Minnesota Twins 2017 was a year that surpassed the expectations of most fans. The team made the playoffs, and the manager kept his job (though we finally got rid of Neil Allen). One of the most encouraging features of the 2017 season was Byron Buxton's performance, which netted him a career high 3.5 Wins Above Replacement, placing him 11th among...

First Jake Odorizzi pitches six innings of shutout baseball in the opening game.

Then Kyle Gibson pitches six innings of shutout and hitless baseball – arguably a step above Odorizzi..

Yesterday, Jose Berrios pitches nine innings of three-hit, one walk, six strikeout baseball - even better than Gibson..

Today, Starter Lance Lynn pitches at noon, centr...

Twins Infield Projections for 2018

rounding third, projections

The Twins infield depth took a real hit when it was announced that Jorge Polanco would have to serve an 80-game suspension for testing positive for PEDs. As it stands, every Twins infielder on the Twins 40-man roster is also on the 25-man roster.

Again, for these projections I used PECOTA (via Baseball Prospectus ), along with ZiPS and Steamer (via Fangr...

This is an except of a post that originated at Zone Coverage; please read the entire thing here .

The 2016 season opened with a walk-off loss for the Minnesota Twins in Baltimore.

Then again, it also began with Miguel Sano playing right field, so the parallels probably stop there.

But the Twins opened the 2018 season in stunningly similar fashion to...

Season Preview: Kyle Gibson One of the biggest questions entering the 2018 season is what we can expect to get from Kyle Gibson. Much attention has been given to the differences in his 1st and 2nd half, so I'd like to take a look and see what version of Kyle Gibson we will get in 2018 or if it is somewhere in between. I don't just want to throw a bunch of statistics at you as that...

Obviously one game, but what pitching! Odorizzi sp? Was terrific, Reed unspeakable, and even the guy who kept throwing it into the ground I can see is gonna be a big help.

seems Falvine knows how to construct a team.

Biggest disappointment is Sano, Im so sick of him going to the plate and not even coming close to the ball, If the the wins can trade h...

Falvey was quickly joined by the re...

A Tale of Two Halves: Taylor Rogers' Keys to Success If there is one thing we can all agree on regarding the 2018 Minnesota Twins, it’s that they have a higher floor than their 2017 counterparts. With key additions in the rotation, bullpen, and at DH, Minnesota baseball fans are eagerly anticipating the start of a new season. With a higher floor, established pieces are going to have to maintain, or raise th...

The Next Minnesota Twins - 2018

The first time I remember watching Minor League Baseball was when I was 11 years old on vacation to visit family living in Appleton, Wisconsin. That season, they had a player who went on to become one of the greatest and most hated baseball players th...
