Miguel Sano- Here to stay?

Posted by ttreadway in Twinsfan4life, 04 July 2015 · 105 views

With eight MLB at-bats under his belt, its not fair to say we've seen what Miguel Sano is made of yet. He is hitting .375 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a .500 slugging percentage. Those look pretty good, but his 50% strikeout rate does not. All that is simply to say that he has not shown us enough to judge from his stats what kind of a player he...

Posted by SD Buhr in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket, 04 July 2015 · 80 views

In each of the past several seasons, the Cedar Rapids Kernels have held an “Autism Awareness Night” at the Veterans Memorial Stadium, with the Kernels wearing special jerseys that are auctioned off to benefit The East Central Iowa Autism Society.

The Society’s web site reports that the rate of autism is currently 1 in 88. However, as the site goes on to...

GM Does Stuff Just To Justify His Job

Posted by Ben Remington in The Dollar Dome Dog, 03 July 2015 · 333 views

GM Does Stuff Just To Justify His Job -SHTICKBALL- In the front office of a professional team, one General Manager is getting rave reviews because of his recent hard work and dedication. What fans don’t know is how much he’s struggling to make himself look busy.

“I just spent forty million dollars today so local sportwriters wouldn’t call me a wimp.” The GM said, wiping sweat from his brow...

Sano to lead Twins in contention...

Posted by huhguy in Blog huhguy, 02 July 2015 · 229 views

I am deeply impressed with Miguel Sano. Yes I saw the game. Yes I saw him strikeout, but I also saw his eye, his swing his confidence. I did not see the deer in the headlights like Buxton showed.

Sano believes he can play in this league and hit these pitchers, and you know what, he can!

It might take a little but look for him to start hitting......

Twins Minor League Report (7/2): Miguel Sano Debuts Miguel Sano made his MLB debut on Thursday evening and (of course) picked up his first career hit via an infield single in the top of the ninth inning at Kauffman stadium in Kansas City. He's a huge young man, just starting his (hopefully) huge MLB career. Oh, and the Twins won thanks to a spectacular eight-inning shutout from Kyle Gibson capped by a Glen...

Can't The Twins Just Play Where They Belong?

Posted by Off The Baggy in Off The Baggy, 02 July 2015 · 204 views

Following the conclusion of the 2014 Major League Baseball season, longtime Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was shown the door. Although the four seasons of losing weren't all his fault, he did little to help the matter either. In his place, Paul Molitor took over. So far in 2015, results as a whole have been promising, but one area continues to be...

WARNE: Joe Mauer’s Going Oppo … Again

Posted by Brandon Warne in BW on the Beat, 02 July 2015 · 1,012 views

There isn’t a more polarizing figure on the Minneapolis sports landscape than Joe Mauer. It’s not hard to see, either. For instance, have a look at social media when Mauer gets a day off — any day off — and how the average fan reacts to it. Never mind the fact that Mauer came into Wednesday tied with Brian Dozier for the most games played on the team.

I was originally going to write about the Twins "June Swoon", but the news of Vargas' demotion followed by word that Miguel Sano would assume his spot on the roster makes last month's struggle old news. The Twins are above .500 so by loose definition they are contenders to make the playoffs. They have promoted three of their top prospects within the last...

Over at Twins Daily, we have been counting down the Twins system's top prospects as part of our midseason update . This allows for players like recent first round pick Tyler Jay to fit into the Twins overall prospect rankings. There is plenty of depth in the Twins system so there are some very good players outside the top 10 rankings.

Some players like B...

Why is there a need for a Metrodome baggie wall in right field? Do we have to remember that the Twins played 27 years in the Teflon Palace? For fans, there is nostalgia and of course two World Series titles, where the Twins won all 8 World Series games at home. Target Field ushered in a new era of outdoor baseball, modern day amenities, the iconic Minnie...

Twins Minor League Report (6/28): Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better...

Posted by Steve Lein in The Hanging SL, 28 June 2015 · 270 views

There was plenty of action on Sunday, as both the Rochester Red Wings and Elizabethton Twins played double-headers. There was a walk-off blast in one game, a few stellar pitching performances, and an ongoing winning streak on the line.

There was also an incredible display of power from the middle of the lineup for one affiliate (I’ll let you guess which...

Best part of these games are the closeness to the action you can get as well as VIPs lurking around. This weekend, Top Scout Mike Ratcliff was seen timing and evaluating the new talent. Guys, You Weren't Supposed to be this Decent

Posted by Twins Fan From Afar in Blog Twins Fan From Afar, 25 June 2015 · 398 views

What a strange season. I didn't think the Twins would be playing decent baseball as the calendar switched to July. I didn't think that Byron Buxton would be up, after his essentially lost 2014 season. I didn't think Trevor May would be (as of late) the team's most dominant starting pitcher. And I sure didn't think this proverbial ragtag bunch of misfi...

With Tonkin being optioned back to the minor leagues, the Twins have created a hole in the lineup in advance of a 10-game road trip, with the first six of those games in National League ballparks. Some people have suggested that Oswaldo Arcia could return, or a utility player such as Doug Bernier.

However, it has appeared to me that the Twins have tried...

Rebuilding a Bullpen

Posted by jorgenswest in Blog jorgenswest, 22 June 2015 · 435 views

The Twins bullpen has the poorest strike out rate in the majors. This is not a surprise and was projected when the 25 man roster was announced. The Twins may need to trade for bullpen help at the deadline. Before that happens, I hope they look at solutions internally.

The Twins need at most one LOOGY as opposed to the two they are using now.

These pitch...
