  1. Alexi and Arbitration

    by , 02-11-2012 at 11:53 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
In the next couple of days, the Alexi Casilla arbitration situation will be over. Arbitration hearings are to be complete by February 15th. The sides are not to discuss when a hearing is scheduled, so we don’t know when the Twins and Casilla would have a hearing in front of an arbiter. Of course, it is also possible that the two sides will come to an agreement before going to arbitration.

This is Casilla’s second year of arbitration. Last year, he signed before a hearing and played ...
  2. Guest-Filled Twins Podcast is a Success

    by , 02-10-2012 at 09:06 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Last night’s 90-minute SethSpeaks.net Weekly Minnesota Twins podcast was a lot of fun! We talked to Kyle Waldrop about what it was like to finally getting his first big league opportunity after spending eight seasons in the Twins system. He discussed what he did in the offseason to improve and what he’s looking to show in spring training. Then Alex Margulies joined us to talk about how big league spring training affects the Ft. Myers Miracle front office. We also discussed how the Miracle has been ...
  3. SethSpeaks.net Weekly Minnesota Twins Podcast (Live at 9:00 Central Time)

    by , 02-09-2012 at 08:25 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
OK, so the show hasn’t been exactly weekly of late. Frankly, the ratings haven’t been where we would like them to be. However, tonight at 9:00 central time, I’ll be hosting a 90-minute Twins podcast. We’ll get caught up on the goings-on around the Twins as we are now about one week from pitchers and catchers reporting! We’ll discuss the offseason and look forward to the 2012 season. You’ll want to join because I’m in the process of lining up several guests to discuss the ...

  4. Organizational Depth Chart: The Relief Pitchers

    by , 02-08-2012 at 10:04 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook 2012 – Now Available as an e-book for $6.99 by clicking here. You can, of course, still get the print version for $13.99 by clicking here.

Today, we will conclude our Organizational Depth Chart by looking at the Relief Pitchers. Frankly, it is kind of a mess thanks to about 89 minor league veterans brought in, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. As I said on Monday, many starters will get time as a reliever, and vice versa. ...
  5. NTB Top 10 Prospects 2012

    by , 02-07-2012 at 10:52 PM (Nick's Twins Blog)
While many, like me, are holding out hope that the Twins can find a way to compete in a 2012 season where the odds are stacked pretty heavily against them, we must acknowledge that there's a good chance the big-league club won't catch the number of breaks it needs, and that by the mid-season point fans will be looking elsewhere for signs of hope.

Those signs will hopefully come from some of the players listed below in my annual preseason ranking of the organization's top ten prospects. ...

  6. Twins Focus 2012 Predictions

    by , 02-07-2012 at 05:26 PM
Seth Stohs of the Twins Centric group and SethSpeaks.net recently posted his 2012 Minnesota Twins predictions. You can view them by clicking here.
I figured I would go ahead and post my 2012 Twins predictions as we are now less than 2 weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training in Fort Myers, FL. Here they are:

1.) Twins Hitter of the Year 2012
Joe Mauer. I look for Mauer to come back with a fury this year. By all accounts he is in great shape ...
  7. Prediction Time!

    by , 02-07-2012 at 08:20 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
This is the hardest time of the year to be a baseball fan. At least it is for me. I actually really enjoy the offseason. I love hearing rumors, and trying to think about what the Twins could do, and what they will do. Who will they sign? Will there be a trade? From the end of the World Series until about the middle of January, it is fun. Then there is the Twins Winter Caravan which is a great time, followed by the weekend of Twins Fest. In a little over a week, one of the great phrases will be uttered, ...

  8. Right Around the Corner

    by , 02-06-2012 at 10:31 PM
Now that the spectacle of the NFL championship is over, thoughts of green grass, and leather gloves, and wood bats take over baseball fans' minds. Spring Training is right around the corner, and I bet you can't wait. I know I can't.

And, by now, it kind of looks like the Twins are done adding players and the Spring Training crew is set. If you're planning on heading to beautiful Fort Myers to visit our boys or if you're planning on listening to some broadcasts, you'll want to ...

  9. AL Central Preview: Chicago White Sox

    by , 02-06-2012 at 06:04 PM (Knuckleballs - JC)
Sometimes I wonder if the Twins actually have a true “rivalry” with any other MLB team. I think we’re all tired of getting our brains beat in by the Yankees every series, whether in the regular season or post-season, but everyone hates the Yankees and, after all, a true rivalry requires some level of mutual dislike, doesn’t it? I’m not altogether sure that Yankee fans even realize the Twins play in the same league as their team.

The closest thing to a rivalry the Twins have probably ...

  10. Will Valencia improve in 2012?

    by , 02-06-2012 at 04:50 PM

After former Twins third baseman Corey Koskie left before the 2005 season, the Twins had trouble finding a suitable replacement for years. They trotted out such names as Tony Batista, Mike Lamb, Joe Crede, Matt Tolbert and Nick Punto to name a few. Then came the 2010 season when Twins prospect Danny Valencia finally broke into the big leagues.

Valencia impressed during his time with the Twins (85 games played). He hit .311/.351/.448 with 7 homeruns ...

  11. Organizational Depth Chart: The Starting Pitchers

    by , 02-06-2012 at 09:46 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook 2012 – Now Available as an e-book for $6.99 by clicking here. You can, of course, still get the print version for $13.99 by clicking here.
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve pointed out the organizational depth charts for the Twins hitters. We’ve looked at catchers, 3B, 1B, Middle Infielders and Outfielders. Today, I’ll take a look at the starting pitchers. Now, especially as I move to the lower levels, I won’t pretend to know which players will move to ...
  12. AL Central Preview: Cleveland Indians

    by , 02-03-2012 at 09:44 PM (Knuckleballs - JC)
Let’s knock off one more preview post before the weekend, shall we? Maybe by next week, I’ll have generated the energy and interest level to look in to the remaining Division rivals. Yesterday, we looked at the prohibitive favorites to repeat as AL Central champions, the Detroit Tigers. For today, we’ll take a little peak at the Cleveland Indians.

If you had said before the 2011 season that the Indians would finish 15 games out of first place in the AL Central Division, not many ...
  13. The Twins Bullpen

    by , 02-03-2012 at 11:23 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins have about 30 pitchers coming to spring training this year. Some Twins fans are upset that the Twins haven't signed the likes of Dan Wheeler or Brad Lidge when they signed for low-price deals. There are still some bullpen arms available (Coffey, Wuertz ,etc.), but the question is Would you rather sign one of those guys, or give opportunities to the guys they already have? Is it possible that the Twins scouting department has determined that Todd Coffey will not be able to get hitters out ...
  14. AL Central Preview: Detroit Tigers

    by , 02-02-2012 at 09:08 PM (Knuckleballs - JC)
We’ve all been writing and talking and debating and complaining about virtually every aspect of the Twins off-season for months, so as the Spring Training gates prepare to swing open, there is very little more to be written concerning our guys’ prospects for 2012. I still suspect Terry Ryan may add another pitching arm from among what has to be a very nervous group of remaining free agents, but otherwise, the roster pretty much is what it is.

That being the case, what else is ...
