  1. Ben Revere proving baseball is a game of inches

by , 08-15-2012 at 12:15 AM (Over the Baggy)
On Tuesday night, in a 8-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers, Ben Revere went two-for-five on the night and had his average settle in at .317 – one one-hundredth of a point behind teammate and three-time American League batting champion Joe Mauer. This average was a far cry from his numbers last year when on this same day he was hitting a paltry .245.

After being sent to Rochester in the early part of 2012, Revere worked with Red Wings hitting coach Tom Brunansky to get his swing back to the ...

  2. Tuesday's Trip through the Minors

by , 08-14-2012 at 10:05 PM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
Brian Duensing put the Twins in an early hole by giving up two runs in each of the first two innings but the Twins were able to make a game of it versus the Tigers. A big bottom of the third inning helped to even the score with Josh Willingham providing most of the damage with a 3-run home run, his 30th of the season. It is a new career high for Willingham and it breaks the previous record that he set last season with Oakland. Unfortunately, the Twins woudn't score again and the Tigers would come ...
  3. Minnesota Twins Top 20 Prospects in Review

    by , 08-14-2012 at 01:38 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
In my fourth annual Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook, which became available in January, I posted my Top 30 Twins Prospect list as well as my annual rankings back five or six years. I enjoy looking at those lists for a couple of reasons. First, it is humbling. No one will likely ever produce a top 10 list that is 100% accurate. Second, it’s a fun reminder of some of the names from the past that didn’t stick around or make it. Third, it’s just fun to review to see what I have learned since then. ...

    • Unfortunately Matt Capps' MRI did not show any improvement and he is not close to a rehab assingment yet. Probably threw his last pitch as a member of the Twins. And there might be some sugar coating but re-signing him and losing the 2 draft picks was one of the worst mistakes that Terry Ryan made. And there is no sugar coating for that.

  5. Piecing together the '13 starting rotation

by , 08-14-2012 at 07:55 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)

Starting pitching has been one of the biggest weaknesses for the Twins in 2012 and it is tough to look to the future and think that there will be help on the way. The Twins seem to be parading every starter that they can from Rochester at different points of the season and the rest of the upper minors is not overflowing with top pitching prospects. The last two pitchers taken by the Twins

It started with a decision in the spring of 1990. He asked her if their first date should be an afternoon at the Art Institute or a double-header at Wrigley Field.

In retrospect, what could be a better place for a first date?"How is that even a call?" she replied.

The sun gleamed, the grass glowed underneath the ballplayers and the magical afternoon was made ...

  7. Monday in the Minors

    by , 08-13-2012 at 10:11 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
The beauty of baseball is many-fold. On any given night. You just never know. Teams need stars to play well over the course of a season to be successful. But on any given night, anyone can step up when you least expect it and help you to a win. On Monday night, Samuel Deduno was wild as ever, but he somehow managed to pitch into the 8th inning and gave the Twins offense an opportunity to work without being behind. Darin Mastroianni was in the lineup as Denard Span and his shoulder are day-to-day. ...
  8. Minor League Odyssey – Day Thirteen – New Britain (Game Eight)

    by , 08-13-2012 at 06:28 PM
After a much needed late wakeup and a quiet morning worshiping at a local church and stopping by a Dunkin’ Donuts (you can’t swing a dead cat around here in Connecticut without hitting one) for a late breakfast, I headed out to New Britain for my only day game of the trip. Temperature was in the eighties and the sky was partly cloudy; all in all a good day for baseball. Getting to the stadium I decide to splurge today and go for the preferred parking ($6) as opposed to general ($4). The extra minute ...

  9. 2012 Draft Power Rankings-8/13/12

    by , 08-13-2012 at 05:11 PM
Here are my updated Class of 2012 Power Rankings. In short, a few things that jump out:

    • Honestly, any one of the top three (Baxendale, Berrios, Jones) could be ranked #1. I have Baxendale there because of his unbelievable K/BB and K/9 ratios.
    • 11th round pick Taylor Rogers out of the University of Kentucky has now thrown a total of 140 innings this year (89.1 in college, 50.2 as a Twin). His numbers for Beloit, although not terrible, are significantly worse than the numbers he

  10. Twins Must Erase Memories of Nishioka

    by , 08-13-2012 at 04:13 PM (Nick's Twins Blog)
Tsuyoshi Nishioka bobbles a throw in a Minnesota Twins game.Tsuyoshi Nishioka, who was optioned to the minors today to make room for Trevor Plouffe, has probably played his last game in a Twins uniform. His memory will endure, however – probably for longer than the team would like.

In a sense, you can't help but feel bad for the guy. He worked hard and tried his best, but in the end he couldn't cut it, and his demotion in the wake of an audition so horrendous it needed to be cut short after three games serves as a ...

  11. Freeland ready to step up - Deng

    by , 08-13-2012 at 09:46 AM
Portland Trail Blazers new boy Joel Freeland has received the backing of Team GB team-mate Luol Deng as he prepares for his first season in the NBA.

The 25-year old Englishman was signed by Portland back in 2006, before further developing his game in the ever-improving leagues in Europe. Freeland will now have his chance in the big-time after completing his move to the US from Spanish team Unicaja Malaga.

While it will be anything but easy for the versatile forward to ...

  12. Adopt a Prospect #7: Luis Perdomo as Mr. Safety Date

by , 08-13-2012 at 08:26 AM (Peanuts from Heaven)
After ten days I'm back from Montana. And I'm happy to report that Luis Perdomo's cup of coffee with the Minnesota Twins has turned into something rapidly approaching a real date! Sure, the Twins might just have called him up out of desperation, a need to have SOMEONE with them, and a desire to feel attractive again (even only for a moment). But Perdomo could easily have screwed the pooch and gotten kicked to the curb with another disastrous outing, or by calling Terry Ryan fat or something. ...
  13. Arcia, Hicks might have earned a look

by , 08-13-2012 at 07:56 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)

While the 2012 season has been a little bit painful at the big league level, there have been plenty of positive stories out of the minor leagues for the Twins. Miguel Sano, the player widely considered as the best in the Twins organization, is showing his power potential by sitting near the top 10 in nearly every offensive category for the farm system. Byron Buxton and J.O. Berrios were
