The Twins have the first overall pick in the Rule 5 draft this week. Previously, I discussed the potential Twins' liabilities in the draft. Now that all major league 40-man rosters are settled in as far as who is unprotected, I will be listing five players who should be interesting targets for the...

Aroldis Chapman, SP

Posted by johns in WiscoTwin, 05 December 2016 · 211 views

Aroldis Chapman is reportedly seeking a contract in the range of 6 yrs, $100M. Give it to him. Right now. Throw in an extra $10M bringing total to 6 yr $110 (which figures in the fact of actually getting him to WANT to play in MN). Why you may ask? Because we will turn him into a starting pitcher.

As a reliever, he is not quite worth that type of...

On The Hall And A Twins Potential Outfielder

Posted by Off The Baggy in Off The Baggy, 05 December 2016 · 290 views

With plenty of different happenings going on in baseball during this time of the year, it's hard to stick simply to one topic. The Winter Meetings are now in full swing, and the Minnesota Twins should be plenty busy fielding calls on trade asset Brian Dozier. For the purpose of this post though, there's two notes I wanted to expand upon.

The first is in...

The Path To A Competent Rotation: A Shorter Trip Than You May Think

Posted by Secondary User in Twin's Organizational News, 23 November 2016 · 1,265 views

It's no secret that the biggest position of need for the Twins is the pitching staff. Sadly, this is a very weak free agent pitching class, and with arms like Santana, Hughes and Gibson still around and reports out that the Twins won't be adding payroll this offseason there doesn't look to be much in the way of room for additions anyway. Looks to be a bl...

Is Mitch Garver the Right Man for the Job?

mitch garver, minnesota twins

Is Mitch Garver the Right Man for the Job? The Minnesota Twins just added Triple-A catching prospect Mitch Garver to their 40-man roster. This is good news for Twins fans as Kurt Suzuki has entered free agency this offseason. Suzuki has been the starting catcher for Minnesota for the past three seasons, and it appears that the Twins will need a replacement. Garver just could be the right man for...

Posted by Steve Lein in The Hanging SL, 20 November 2016 · 215 views

The Surprise Saguaros headed into the final day of the AFL season needing to win their game with the Salt River Rafters to clinch a spot in the AFL Championship game, and were able to do so with contributions from four of the Twins players.

Stephen Gonsalves punctuated his shortened time in the AFL with a six strikeout effort in his start on Tuesday, Nic...

Yeah, I really should have looked at the Surprise Saguaros' schedule before I reserved my hotel for this trip. After Saturday night's Fall Stars Game and Monday afternoon's Surprise game, the Saguaros (for whom all of the Minnesota Twins AFP prospects play this fall) have no more home games while I'm in town.

The game today was the first of four games th...

Twins 101: The Day The Twins Were Greenlighted For Moving To Minnesota, Oct. 26, 1960 From the safety of the walls of my study, book and Twins bobbleheads looking down on me in great thought, comes a new post, "It's Official: Senators Announce Move To Minnesota, Oct. 26, 1960 ." It gives a short glimpse into the intrigue and downright un-transparent (opaque?) nature of the pre-move behavior by Griffith and the American League in 1960.

My 2016 offseason plan

Posted by diehardtwinsfan in Blog diehardtwinsfan, 10 October 2016 · 681 views

103. That's truly a terrible number, and it's been some time since the Twins have been able to earn the top pick overall. This season was an abomination, especially given the high hopes that Twins fans had coming in. There's no need to really go over what went wrong. There's a number of things, but pitching most definitely tops the list. It finished second...

Hunter Greene - Why wouldnt this work?

Posted by huhguy in Blog huhguy, 09 October 2016 · 777 views

Its interestng to see a player who could be drafted as a position player or a pitcher....Why dont we draft Greene, play him at 3b/ss and use him as a reliever as well? This would be a great boon to the roster, you wouldnt have to carry an extra pitcher, when you bring him into pitch, you insert your utility infielder....feedback please

Rating the Twins' Offense in a League Without the Twins

In a miserable season destined for 100 losses, Twins fans can be sure that their team is a mess. But as the Sept. 18 episode of Gleeman and the Geek points out, most of that mess is as a result of just one side of the ball: pitching and defense. Aaron and John noted that the Twins are actually fairly decent when it comes to hitting, and raised an interes...

Twins Almanac: Dozier Edition Here's my quick kitchen table roundup of all of the trivia surrounding Dozier's big day.

Brian Dozier is the sixth player in Twins history to homer three times in a game, j oining Bob Allison and Harmon Killebrew (1963), Tony Oliva ('73), Justin Morneau ('07) and Max Kepler who homered three times on August 1st this season in Cleveland.

Let me preface what will undoubtedly be a long entry by saying I am a Dozier fan. I have spoken to him at Spring Training a couple of times and like the young man. I believe he has been the Twins MVP for each of the last four seasons (counting this one) and I have no doubt that he is the team's best player at this point. Certainly, he isn't flawless, but...

2017 roster

Posted by Shane Wahl in Field of Twins, 04 September 2016 · 1,219 views

I love the non-insane idea of a lineup that looks like this:

Buxton
Mauer
Dozier
Kepler
Sano
Vargas
Polanco
Rosario
Garver/Murphy

Backup catcher, Escobar, Park, and Palka/Walker on the bench.

Santana
May
Berrios
Gibson
Santiago

Pressly
O'Rourke
Hughes
Tonkin
Rogers
Duffey

I am really not sure about the bullpen. Perkins might be done. Kintzler canno...

Follow up rant to the 'insanity' thread

In the spirit of putting stream-of-conscious rants in the blogs section, where nobody will ever see them or have to look at them, I submit this frustrated piece of work in response to the insanity thread poster Shane Wahl started. You have been warned!

Another angle I come at this insanity from is the public messaging; in other words, the people who cov...

One of the great things about being a baseball fan is you can always find plenty to be positive about if you’re willing to look hard enough. While 2016 has been a bleak year for the Twins, having 100-plus players in the organization means there are 100-plus opportunities to find some bright spots.

It’s no secret that the biggest issue for the Twins has b...
