Recognizing Identity Is Key For The Twins

Posted by Off The Baggy in Off The Baggy, 28 July 2015 · 164 views

Here we are on the week of the Major League Baseball trade deadline, and the Minnesota Twins control their own destiny. Three games in front of the Toronto Blue Jays for the second and final wild card spot, the AL East competition just made their splash. In acquiring Troy Tulowitzki from the Colorado Rockies, it's apparent the Blue Jays are going for it....

Why JT Chargois is better than A-Rod

It has not been an easy last two weeks for our Adopted Prospect: Mr. Jon Tiberius Chargois (okay it's Jon Thomas...but give me some nerd slack). He had his worst outing of the year giving up 6 earned runs on three walks and three hits, and the breezy dominance that made Chargois a Florida State League All-Star seems like a distant memory compared to his c...

Don't Just Do Something, Stand There! Baseball hasn't always been the paragon of parity, with teams like the Cardinals, Braves, and Yankees constructing dynasties that spanned for the better part of a decade, but this year is unlike any we've seen in recent history. No American League team is more than 10 games out of a playoff spot with two full months of the season left. It's parity to the...

WARNE: Pitchers Hesitant to Challenge Patient Sano

Posted by Brandon Warne in BW on the Beat, 27 July 2015 · 362 views

t’s hard to envision Miguel Sano rewarding the Twins any more than he has through 18 big league games. The 22 year old has hit .283/.405/.517 in 74 plate appearances, and eight of his 17 hits have gone for extra bases. Strikeouts were always going to be an issue in the short term, and that’s been no exception as he’s fanned in 35.1 percent of his plate ap...

Baseball and the Clock. (Note: After regularly commenting on the 2013 Twins season, I stayed away from the blog while I put life's little bits together into something that resembled the picture on the puzzle box. Now, with Roy C. Booth and my novel Orphans published and ready to scare everyone senselessly, I finally have time to return to overthinking the odds and ends of Twins...

ARod 5-9 against Perkins, Twins Coaches ignore

Posted by huhguy in Blog huhguy, 26 July 2015 · 319 views

I did something I rarely do. I shut the game off. I watch on my computer so I have to take whatever feed I get.

I was watching the Yankees broadcast, their play by play guy reported the following. Mauer moved to first base because of knee problems, (said it twice) Sorry Yank fans, you show respect for one of the greatest players of our time, a three...

Three trades the Minnesota Twins need to make right now: Part III

Posted by Thrylos in Thrylos' Blog - select Tenth Inning Stretch posts, 22 July 2015 · 858 views

In the first part of this series , I suggested that the Twins trade Danny Santana , Mike Tonkin and Jake Reed to the Oakland Athletics for Ben Zorbrist and Tyler Clippard; and to promote Jorge Polanco as their starting shortstop. In the second part of this series , I suggested that the Twins trade Tommy Milone and Jason Wheeler to the Phillies for...

Twins Minor League Report (7/20): Pitching Leads the Way

The Twins had the day off on Monday as they travel down the west coast of California from Oakland to Los Angeles to face the Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday. Kyle Gibson will make the start and look to get Minnesota back in the win column after the drubbing yesterday.

But in the minors on Monday, it was a full slate of games with each affiliate in action. T...

40 Man Issues

As we approach the non-waiver trade deadline, many commenters have discussed the logjam that we are facing in the roster decisions that will need to be made this off-season.

While we search for potential catchers, relief pitchers, and other assorted pieces of the puzzle (both this year and next), it would help me greatly if someone could list the names o...

The Twins’ Pinch-Hitting Problem

Posted by glp_vt in Bloop Singles, 18 July 2015 · 407 views

The Twins’ Pinch-Hitting Problem One of the luxuries of being nine games over .500 at the All-Star break is the chance to take a closer look at some of the often-ignored corners of the roster for upgrades. Building a bench that can make a difference late in a ballgame is tough, and in fact most teams in baseball have struggled to do so in recent years, but no team has struggled to quite...

I'm jumping the gun by a day, but the Twins are approaching the All-Star break and they certainly qualify as contenders. After beating Detroit today, they are tied for the second best record in the league at eight games over .500. One can't help but be a little optimistic about the Twins chances for the last 74 games. Today was a high point, not only hamm...

An Unexpected Night At Fenway

Posted by ashburyjohn in Nevada Twins Fan, 08 July 2015 · 317 views

My wife phoned to say someone at work was looking to sell a couple of bleacher tickets at Fenway. So, mere hours later (well, 30 is "mere", no?), I was on the Worcester commuter train, getting off at Yawkey Station.

Fun game versus the Marlins. Tied 1-1 for a long while, then the Sox starter Miley tired at around the 100-pitch mark and the score became 3...

40 man roster explanation please

Posted by curt1965 in Blog curt1965, 07 July 2015 · 679 views

Could someone tell me how adding and subtracting players to/from the 40 man roster works? For example- let's say the Twins want to bring up Fryer, and therefore would need to add him to the 40 man. In addition, they DFA Herrmann and remove him from the 40 man. Fryer gets hurt or is ineffective, can they reverse everything in a month or so?
Same with O'R...
