DOM Day 2020 #TwinsDaily

DOM Day 2020 #TwinsDaily Its been a long time since I've sat down to cook up some morale. To make a long story as short as possible, I plan to write a lot throughout this 2020 season. This is something that I love to do, and that's an understatement. When I started doing this last year, I tried to not overdue it. Unfortunately that ended up with me shying away too much. The feedback I got last year was amazing even though it was such a small circle of people who showed it. That's okay. I loved that. I know this is something I love to do and its all gas no breaks for 2020. *dababy voice* LESSS GOOOOO

I want to start off by looking back at a few things that I teased in my first blog last year. I started with Byron Buxton. Last year was a really good glimpse into what we have been waiting for with Byron. He showed so much more confidence at the plate. He spent all his time in the 9 hole and although he can be a spark in that part of the lineup I still think he has the upside of a top of the order hitter. Regardless where he's hitting we needed to see him show a significant step forward at the plate, and we did. Unfortunately we were cut short of a full season due to injury yet again. I haven't lost an ounce of hope. I've been saying it since he came up, he's a 5 tool guy and if we can get the health to be steady, we have one of the most impactful guys in the game.

Rocco. There aren't enough good things to say about our manager. I said he was perfect for the job, that he would bring the positive culture change that was so badly needed and boom, manager of the year and 101 wins in his first season. Molitor to Rocco was like trading in a Honda Civic for a Tesla. He brought an analytical approach to our team and organization that we had been lacking for years. There are so many numbers in the game of baseball now, that if you're not able to translate those numbers into a common language and that language in to results, you're going nowhere. Hiring Rocco wasn't just a change of face for the clubhouse. It was a guy who was going to translate those numbers into results. And those results were career years for Kepler, Polanco, Sano, Buxton etc. And he relates to them in a way that Molitor couldn't ever dream of. The players rave and preach how awesome Rocco is and I truly feel like we have one of the best managers in the sport.

To put it simply, 2019 was a hell of year. The second winningest team in franchise history with 101 wins. I'm going to self anoint them as the MOST winningest team over the 1965 twins who won 102 games. Why? 1965, that's why. I can't and won't take 1965 seriously. Sure there were players like Clemente, Tony O, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Pete Rose. But there were also part time car mechanics and Perkins cooks on the mound. Pitchers throwing mid 80s with zero movement and then going from a day game to flipping pancakes for a family of 4. The 2019 Twins are facing upper 90s with tail, curve, drop, sink and everything under the sun. 101 wins and the most homeruns ever in a season is all I need to hear. Give me that team every day of the week.

ONTO 2020

It's not yet 24 hours since the news of us sending flamethrower Brusdar Graterol to the Red Sox in return for Kenta Maeda from the Dodgers. I don't love it. I think to give up Brusdar the return should have been quite a bit more than Maeda. But it is what it is. At the end of the day I think of it like I shared on twitter

The biggest news this far has been the signing of Josh Donaldson. Many people know Josh through his incredible years in Toronto, winning an MVP and being one of the best players in the league. I have LOVED this guy for years. His personality, his charisma, his mentality towards the game, all of it is incredible. I think the only reason he's not as big of a name right now as those MVP years was because of the injured season two years ago and spending a season in Atlanta in Acuna's shadow. This is a guy coming off a 37HR, 94RBI .900OPS season and playing 155 games. He's an upgrade defensively at third, can DH or do whatever you need him to. When I first really started to love Josh was after this video on MLB network talking about his approach at the plate. (First Video https://youtu.be/dnKZ0kLOTiQ) It's 5 minutes of pure electricity. Listen to this dude talk about all the little things that go into his swing. The hands have been so instrumental to what makes great hitters who they are. Josh saying that he takes his hands out of it, was a shockwave, and it's clearly felt with Mark DeRosa's reaction to it. That video led to this follow up demonstration with Mark again (Second Video https://youtu.be/NyWNCrxVzPU) I have watched each of these videos countless times. I feel like every time I do, I pick up on something new. I could not be more excited to have this guy on our team. Him along side Nelly is such a scary sight for pitchers in 2020 and beyond.

In conclusion it's hard to be more excited for this season than I am. 2019 was the most fun I've had as a Twins fan in my life and 2020 should be even better. The frauds tried and tried to proclaim this team dead at every turn last year. For 2020 they might wanna go off the grid because this team might be on a war path. I half joke when I say if you're sitting in the outfield seats, you better not be surprised if you take a meteor off your dome. 307.......THREE HUNDRED AND SEVEN tanks last year. Didn't have Sano for the start of the year, Cron was swinging with a carrot for a thumb second half of the year, Buxton missed the last month plus.............didn't matter. We went out and broke the record by FOURTY. And we don't play on a softball field like the Yankees. And now we add the Bringer of Rain? Someone tell me where the outs are in our lineup? It's a new year, but the motto stays the same. It is so god damn good to be us, put a hard hat on, get the women and children out of the first 30 rows for safety, and don't..........DO NOT..........LET. US. GET. HOT.
YOU RIDE OR YOU RIDE, MARCH TILL OCTOBER, THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION AND THERE NEVER WILL BE.
