The Best Two Words In Baseball: World Series

Posted by TwinsFan268 , 29 February 2020 · 926 views

The Bomba Squad was great and Twins fans throughout Twins Territory were highly satisfied from March to September. And September 25th, the Twins clinched the AL Central for the first time since 2010. This was all great. Then October came and we had to play our playoff foes, the New York Yankees. And we didn't win. We lost. We were swept. We brought our playoff losing streak up to 16.

So, I bet you're wondering why I'm reminding you of all this sad stuff you already knew. That's because, it's spring training, baseball is back, and the Twins have the bar set pretty high for themselves this year. That's because, they have their sights set on the ultimate prize: the World Series.

We all know that the Twins haven't been in a World Series since the greatest World Series ever in '91. But it's been going from player to player this spring training, and all the Twins want to get there. Eddie Rosario said "Everybody comes here to win the World Series. That's the real focus right now, this year." Miguel Sano also said "We've got a great lineup but we're not looking for the Bomba Squad this year. We got our [home run] record and I don't think they can break it too quickly. This year, we've got something better. We've got a World Series. We're playing for a World Series."

I don't 100% agree with Sano's quote, because OF COURSE we're looking for the Bomba Squad. Can't we win a World Series AND break our own home run record? But, obviously, the sights are more set on the World Series this year.

So, what do you think? Can we get there. I honestly think that we can't completely avoid the Yankees in the playoffs. A lot of the AL is not good. But I think that this year, we have enough pitching and more than enough bats to get around that obstacle.

Nah,best two words in baseball are Opening Day.Granted I am always more of a journey than a destination guy.You can't win the World Series in March. You can't win a playoff game in March. You can't even qualify for the playoffs in March. It may have been an abstract goal in 87 and 91 but no one was saying it out loud. They went about their business and it just developed. I remember them talking about it in ST of 2010 for all the good it did them. Its great to be confident and have goals but why put the pressure on yourselves. Its enough pressure just to make the playoffs. Win one playoff game, then start shooting higher. Can;t do that in March or April.

World Series or bust for Twins this year, RB not hiding from it. He has said that is their goal. Lots of things have to fall into place for that to happen, many very good teams have been sidetracked by injuries or just bad luck. Looking forward to season.

The Yankees are already being fatigued by injuries and the Astros are being criticized over and over for their sign stealing. (Both kinds, stealing the signs from the players and stealing the signs in the 2017 WS.) I think it's going to be an easier road this year.

It's refreshing that the expectation coming from the team is a World Series championship. Minnesota sports fans of men's professional sports teams have been plagued long enough by moral victories, rebuilding efforts, and windows of opportunity slammed shut too soon. I watched the highlights of the Nationals World Series run and that fan base was having the times of their lives.
