I agree with the top 3 posters.....dont get that attitude out of Trevor at all. He's looks like he will be a low average, power hitting type of 3B who's on the low end of defensive ability.
Does that mean he should have the position locked in for next yr....absolutely no. If they can upgrade, go for it.

I don't see it. Trevor seems to always have a smile on his face and joking with the fellas when in the dugout. When he strikes out or makes an error he always appears to be disgusted with himself. These traits seem to indicate to me that he is not arrogant, but trying his best to succeed and be a good teammate.

Major league baseball players have to be confident to be successful. When they struggle-- that confidence may appear to be arrogance. I don't think Plouffe shows any more arrogance than other players. You can never tell about injuries, but it does seem the Twins have more than their share of lingering ones.

I don't think it is fair to make personal judgments on any of the players, or their efforts. He's had to work to earn his playing time for the last 3 years. He is a smart guy. He works hard. He's just struggling.

New to the site but I have been reading the blogs and comments for a while. I noticed the request for the name of one pitcher who has had some success walking more batters than he struck out and came up with two that I recall - Bucky Walters and Wes Ferrel. However that being said I would agree that they are extremely few and far between.

Imagine if he has his wicked stuff... and he only walked 4 per nine innings instead of 8?

    Thank you, Seth.

Name one pitcher in big league history who has had any sustained success walking more than he strikes out, and not striking out very many. Just one, please.

I am starting to join the bandwagon of fire Anderson--if they are making Deduno into a Twins-type pitch-to-contact guy then thats a crime. We need more effectively wild guys.

Dick/Bert have one job as the TV announcers, and that is to make the current game they are calling entertaining for the fans. Unfortunately, "fans" that they are speaking to are not including the majority of the people that visit this site. We all have no doubt that this is a lost season, and the Twins should be looking towards the future. But do you think the organization wants their employees to sit around for 4 hours every day talking about how terrible this season was and do nothing but depress the fans more than they already are?

I really think when they say things about the Twins being in contention if they just had a few small pieces in place is more tongue in cheek. Dick/Bert know that we are done, they're more or less saying if the Twins started the 2012 season with these few pieces then the story would be much different today.
Well thought out! I enjoy this site and its knowlegable fans

+2. That, and let's see him dominate a few lineups better than the Twins before we start planning to mortgage the farm for him. He is the kind of guy they'll probably have to roll the dice on eventually, though.

My only criticism of Dick and Bert is this... why is it that when they have a fan(s) join them in the booth for an inning, they are not given a microphone? It is so annoying having to sit around and watch Bert make them feel uncomfortable without realizing it, and not being able to hear what the fans are saying...

"It's the fan of the day, let's hear what they have to say! It's the fan of the day, let's hear what they have to say" IALTO coming....

The mute button is your friend -- turn off the sound. You'll be surprised at how much more enjoyable it is to watch the games (even the way the Twins are playing) without listening to all the blathering and incessant interviews and gimmicks.

Well, if we did hit better and got better pitching, we would be in contention. With the success that Bruno has had down in AAA, wouldn't mind bringing him up to the Bigs and giving him a shot as the hitting coach. And it isn't Gardy's fault, he isn't the one being paid millions upon millions of dollars to do what they have done since childhood and mostly doing it like they are a child facing grown men. And what do you expect? I would imagine most people want the Twins to succeed, especially those who are the announcers for them. How hard do you think it would be if you were the one who loved a team and had to announce most days that they stink? Pretty hard, I would imagine.

To continue, while Mastroianni's ISO is unprecedented by his minor league numbers, his minor league OPS, with the exception of 2008, was fairly stable between .700 and .800. In sum, the claim: "He can't hit", is, at best, ignorant and disingenuous, and, at worst, a delusional statement of reality.

It's never a good idea to post a bald statement--unsupported by any actual argument--as though one were the Pope speaking ex cathedra (I believe is the term--my Latin was never very good), when the statement appears to conflict with the evidence. He has a 27% line drive rate; he has above average contact rates; he has a below (above) average rate of swinging outside the strike zone; his BABIP is not totally out of line for his speed (although ZIPS has him at a much lower .301 ROS); et cetera.

    Fangraphs
Baseball Reference (Pitch summary is quite interesting).

Bad hitter he may be, but he is a better hitter than Casilla, Nishioka, etc.

He'll be a solid fourth outfielder for us. The bat won't likely hold up in a starting role. Some people are just suited for bench roles. It seemed like Punto's average was about 30 points higher coming off the bench, but that could be my imagination.

Just keep people in places they can thrive in. Duensing is a better reliever, Mastroianni is a good fourth outfielder, and Nick Blackburn is a good... beard. See, everyone's happy.
