  1. Twins Minor League Report (7/10): Virgil Vasquez Goes the Distance

The Twins picked up a win on Thursday night thanks to another big game from Kendrys Morales against his former team. Morales had an important two-run double to help stretch the Twins' lead. The Twins have now won three straight games and head out to Colorado for some interleague play against the Rockies and Justin Morneau, Michael Cuddyer and LaTroy Hawkins.

Let's take a look at the Minor Leagues.

  2. Twins Minor League Report (5/20): Tremendous Pitching Trio

Minnesota starts into a West Coast swing of baseball action on Tuesday. The club will play two games in San Diego before heading up the coast for a weekend series in San Francisco. This means some late night baseball action for Twins Territory, as most of the team's games won't be starting until 8:00 pm or later.

The Twins have won each of their last three series including two out of three from Boston and Detroit. If the Twins want to continue to be relevant in the AL Central, they ...
  3. Twins Minor League Report (5/13): Berrios Baffles

It’s shaping up to be a killer couple of days for Cedar Rapids. After the first two games of their four-game set with Peoria got rained out, the Kernels will be forced to play double-headers on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In their two other double-headers this season, the Kernels have played to an all or nothing result. They have either swept or gotten swept by the opposition. This left the club with a 2-2 record in double-header action this season.

How would they fare tonight? ...
  4. Twins Minor League Report (4/29): Harrison Gets Hot

Weather played an issue in Minneapolis, as the Twins couldn't get in the first game of their series with the Dodgers. The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Thursday. Kyle Gibson was supposed to start on Sunday before a rainout and now he got pushed back to Wednesday. He should be well rested.

Some of the other speculation for Thursday is about who the Twins could call-up to be their 26th man for the doubleheader. The Twins could be looking at starting pitcher ...

  6. Cody's 2014 Minnesota Twins Top Prospects: 11-20

One of the benefits of being a bad team for multiple seasons is the fact the Twins have been able to replenish some of their farm system with high draft picks the last two years. Add these players into a group that already included some top-notch talent, and the future of the Twins organization continues to look bright.

Throughout the offseason there will be plenty of prospect lists released by a variety of media outlets. There are always differences between how people view the particular ...
  7. Wille’s Way: Starting At Catcher For Your Minnesota Twins….Matt Wieters?

When the Minnesota Twins announced earlier this week that Joe Mauer would be making the permanent shift from catcher to first base, few blinked an eye. Twins’ fans deep down—no matter how much we tried to fight it—knew that one day this was going to happen. Mauer’s end-of-the-year injury certainly didn’t help his odds of remaining at catcher for the remainder of his career and at the end of the day, Mauer is simply too valuable for this team to be sitting on the disabled list; thus, the move to ...
  8. Restarting a Culture of Winning

The Minnesota Twins have made a habit of losing over the last three seasons. With back-to-back 90 loss seasons and the team on track to make it three in a row, there hasn't been a lot to be excited about at the major league level. Poor starting pitching and a lack-luster offense have created a "Debby Downer" attitude among the former Twins faithful.

When Minnesota was in the midst of winning six division titles in nine years, a culture of winning was created even as there were changes ...
  9. Fishing for the Biggest Marlin

"My big fish must be somewhere."--- Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea

Marlin fishing can be an adventure.

These beasts of the ocean can weight upwards of 1,000 pounds and it can take quite the fight to get them into a boat. Fishing for these animals can take a lot of time and patience. It also takes the right tools and skills to reel in one of these giant fish.

Over the weekend, a story came out in the Boston Globe that discussed the possibility ...
  10. Twins Minor League Report (7/10): Stewart Impresses

The New Britain Rock Cats didn't have a game on Wednesday evening but multiple players from their team were taking part in the Eastern League All-Star Game. New Britain was also the host city for the event and there were plenty of ESPN personalities at the event since it is so close to the headquarters of the four letter network.

Danny Santana started the game at shortstop and was the lead-off hitter for the Eastern Divison. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Josmil Pinto was the only ...
  11. Twins Minor League Report (6/30): Kernels Keep Winning

The Twins had a back and forth game on a beautiful afternoon at Target Field. Unfortunately, the club came out on the losing side of their match-up with the Royals. There were home runs from Justin Morneau, Trevor Plouffe, and Clete Thomas but it still wasn't enough. The bullpen gave up four runs in the last four frames for a tough loss.

In minor league news, RHP AJ Achter was transferred to Rochester from New Britain. It will be his first trip to Triple-A. Achter had appeared in 24 ...

At the end of last week, the Twins added some strong talent to their organization through the MLB Draft. Minnesota's farm system was already considered one of the best in baseball and having another top 5 pick can only help to improve their top level talent.

My last prospect ranking came back when I was helping to put together the "Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook." There have been a few changes to the list as players begin to move closer to the ...
  13. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

It was a rough week for the Twins with nine straight losses. The club hasn't won a game since May 13th. Two fifths of the starting rotation was replaced including sending down Opening Day starter Vance Worley. Even on a night where Josh Willingham hits two home runs, the club still can't find a way to win.

Minnesota does have two of the best team's in all of the minor leagues. This can make it fun to dream about the future. Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton could turn into monster MLB players. ...
  14. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

It wasn't the best week for the Twins as the team lost the rubber game of their three game set with the Orioles on Sunday. This was followed by losing two out of three games to the dreaded White Sox.

Even with the poor play, Joe Mauer continues to be one of the best hitters in the game (.519/.594/.704 in the last 7 days). Aaron Hicks showed off all of his skills in one game to help the team to their only win of the week. It wasn't all bad for Justin Morneau either as he hit over .460 ...
