  1. Spidey's Successors

Now that the NFL has started, I hardly have the gumption to watch the Twins for more than a few innings. Let’s face it...it’s not the NFL’s fault at all. The Twins were horrible this year. It was a combination of stuff, and it was all bad stuff. I long for the days of Johan…

Once upon a time, the Twins had an epic center-fielder nicknamed “Spiderman.” He owned center-field, like Jordan owned Ehlo. He took back home-runs like they were apples, ...

  2. Mean Routine (Twins at As - Games 152-155)

Memory Lane Trips (Twins 6 As 8 -- Game 152)

In 2006, I watched Boof Bonser take the mound against the Oakland As. I was close to Torii Hunter when he tripped up and misplayed a ball. I watched a good season end.

Now the As are looking pretty good and the Twins are collapsing their way to 90+ losses. Again. Third time in a row.

Nighttime is getting dark, and these games are just little tombstones in a season so forgettable you couldn't describe it by mentioning ...
  3. Former Twins Litter All-Star Rosters

The Minnesota Twins will host the 2014 All-Star Game at Target Field but a plethora of their former players will gather a year early for the Mid-Summer Classic. Seven former members of the organization will join current Twins players Joe Mauer and Glen Perkins. It would have been great to see all of these nine men on the field in Minneapolis so maybe they can all continue playing well for the next calendar year.

Many Twins fans are familiar with the year's being put together by Perkins ...
  4. 2013 American League All-Star Picks

    Down the stretch they come!

Well, at least as far as voting goes for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game in New York City. There can be some debate over who should make the club. Some voters like to pick out the players that have had the best first half of a season in 2013. Others look at the last calendar year and try and pick out the rosters based on those performances.

Today I break down the American League roster. There are some tough decisions at a couple positions but there ...
  5. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

The Twins put together a solid series against the White Sox to earn a three-game sweep. The rival Sox are plummeting in the AL Central but it is still nice to beat a hated foe. Powerful offensive performances and some decent pitching helped to club in the series. Now it will be time to see what the team can do when they head out on the road for a couple of series.

Some of the other Twins headlines from this week included: Justin Morneau finally ended the longest home run drought of ...

Once part of the young and emerging outfield known as the “soul patrol” along with Torii Hunter and Jacque Jones, Matt Lawton seemed to have a bright future and career ahead of him as an outfielder for the Minnesota Twins; but things never materialized like Lawton or the Twins could have predicted. Lawton spent the better part of seven seasons with the Twins ...

  7. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

It wasn't the best week for the Twins as the team lost the rubber game of their three game set with the Orioles on Sunday. This was followed by losing two out of three games to the dreaded White Sox.

Even with the poor play, Joe Mauer continues to be one of the best hitters in the game (.519/.594/.704 in the last 7 days). Aaron Hicks showed off all of his skills in one game to help the team to their only win of the week. It wasn't all bad for Justin Morneau either as he hit over .460 ...
  8. 2013 AL Central Preview

The Tigers were supposed to run away with the division last season but their team showed some holes. This allowed a club like the White Sox to surprise the baseball world and finish in second place by only three games. The Indians and the Royals have made some offseason moves to try and push themselves closer to the top.

The AL Central is considered one of the weaker divisions in baseball but the reigning American League Champions reside in the division. Detroit wants to get back to ...
  9. 2013 American League Preview

Trying to predict baseball is becoming harder and harder. With the addition of the second wild card spot, it seems like almost every team has a shot at earning a trip to the postseason. No one saw the Orioles and the Athletics making it into the postseason last year. It is also hard to believe the playoffs occurred without the Angels participating.

That is what makes this game so much fun. Fans from every team have hope at the beginning of the year and there are 162 games to separate ...
  10. Worm Hunting

To be considered a prospect that will be drafted in the top-20 of any MLB Draft is quite a feat. Nearly everyone cannot accomplish that on natural talent alone. It takes an extreme amount of sweaty labor that most people would not, or could not, endure. I want to hope beyond all hope that Aaron Hicks turns out just like Dennis Rodman.

  11. Turning to Ben Revere as leadoff man

One of the fallouts from the Denard Span trade last week is the promotion of Ben Revere to leadoff hitter and starting center fielder. Revere has served in this capacity at various times over the last couple of season when Span was dealing with a variety of injury issues. His defense has been exciting to watch and he has shown tremendous speed on the base paths but will Revere be able to handle the hitting approach it takes to be a lead-off hitter for a big league ...
  12. Episode 68: Live from GleeManor

The Star-Tribune Twins Blogger Picture from...2003?Aaron and John are at GleeManor being filmed for a documentary and talk about Scott Baker signing with the Cubs, Torii Hunter's post-Twins career and return to the AL Central, poor Mike Redmond, how the local media has and hasn't changed in their decade of blogging, why the Tigers and Blue Jays seem more willing to make big moves than the Twins, and their planned trip to see Hannibal Buress. Here are:

Back in the 1993 when the Twins drafted a high school outfielder from Arkansas, there was plenty of hope surrounding his future. The greatest player in franchise history, Kirby Puckett, was manning the outfield for the current team and this new athletic young man was in line to be his heir apparent. Puckett's career would be cut short in the coming years but Torii Hunter would lead a revitalization of the Twins franchise in the 2000s.

    Two decades ...
  14. Former Twins Position Players Fill Free Agent Market

There are plenty of players looking for big free agent money and a half dozen position players on the market have spent time playing for the Minnesota Twins. There are some key pieces to former teams and some other role players mixed in the bunch. A couple of these players are coming off one of their best seasons as a professional but it looks like age might be a factor.

The Twins have a variety of needs this offseason, such as starting pitching and middle infield depth. With those ...
