  1. 8 Reasons I am not worried about Aaron Hicks and Kyle Gibson

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!

In case you missed it, a couple of prominent Twins rookies had difficult seasons. Well, difficult might be a massive understatement. Well, massive might be a huge overstatement. I'll calibrate my adjectives later, but we all know that Aaron Hicks and Kyle Gibson performed below expectations. Expectations may have been too high to begin with, but both players struggled to a surprising extent.

Hicks and Gibson are hardly ...
  2. Then We Dotted the "i" - (Twins versus Mets -- Game 123)

    (Twins 1 Mets 6 -- Game 123)

Today, two teams who won't get near the playoffs came together to play one final game that didn't mean much of anything. Except the Twins still lost.

Pitcher Kyle Gibson lost his job, too. I decided years ago he was going to be the future of the organization, so I made plans to stick with him throughout his ups and downs so I could say I always knew he'd be an ace.

    I willed it, but it didn't happen. I can't say I'm sure anymore, ...
  3. Would a Johan Santana reunion make sense?

It has been five seasons since Johan Santana last wore the uniform of the Minnesota Twins. In the mean time, he has been dealing with multiple injuries and ineffective pitching performances. He missed all of the 2011 season as he dealt with a shoulder problem and he won't pitch in 2013 because of another should issue. Last season with the Mets, he tossed 117 innings with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.

Not exactly the numbers Twins fans were used to seeing from their former ace pitcher. ...
  4. Fishing for the Biggest Marlin

"My big fish must be somewhere."--- Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea

Marlin fishing can be an adventure.

These beasts of the ocean can weight upwards of 1,000 pounds and it can take quite the fight to get them into a boat. Fishing for these animals can take a lot of time and patience. It also takes the right tools and skills to reel in one of these giant fish.

Over the weekend, a story came out in the Boston Globe that discussed the possibility ...
  5. Kyle Gibson's Innings Count? The Shadow Knows...

"Who knows how many pitches lurk in the arm of young Kyle Gibson? The Shadow Knows....Mwahahaha!" The Shadow Knows - YouTube

Pioneer Press scribe Mike Berardino recently asked Kyle Gibson if the young pitcher knows when he will be shut down for the remainder of the 2013 season. It appears, based on Gibson's response, that the Twin's 2009 1st round pick has no idea when his last start will be.

Berardino quotes Gibson: "I'm sure (Twins officials) have a plan," ...

Seven starts into his major league career, things have not gone as planned for Twins rookie Kyle Gibson.

Gibson entered this season as one of the organizationís most hyped pitching prospects in recent memory. That probably says more about the sad state of Twins starting pitching in recent years than it does about Gibson himself, given his likely ceiling as a number three starter and the fact that he is less than two years removed from Tommy ...

While that strategy might work out long-term, the current team is rotten and I can't even imagine being an Astros fan right now. At least the Twins have a couple players worth watching while they flail. Anyway, the Twins rebounded nicely after the Royals series ...
  8. Handing Out Twins First Half Awards

At the beginning of the season, I devoted an entire week to make predictions about the upcoming MLB season. These predictions can be fun especially with all of the surprises that surround the game of baseball. I had the Toronto Blue Jays winning the AL East... oops. There are going to be a few swings and misses.

With the All-Star Game over and done with, let's take a look back at the first half of the season and see who's in line for each of NoDak Twins Fan's end of the season awards. ...
  9. Wha' Happened #10 ("Best" Games)

There's a fuller write up "recapping" the last week plus in Twins Territory at our main blog, but here are a few key samplings from each series

    Game 76
    Marlins 5 - Twins 3
The Twins have a good deal of early success against Miami's starter in the first inning, they run into trouble against Kevin "Killthrow" Slowey, who savored the opportunity to best the team that let him go. Elsewhere "Dr. Cakeburn"Nick Blackburn, and Boof Bonser plotted their ...

I hope everyone had a fun and leisurely 4th. I kept it cool, just hanging out in my house and laying low. I watched the Twins game yesterday and I was saddened by Kyle Gibson's performance. I think he'll bounce back, but seeing him struggle was a good reminder that he is a rookie and there will be growing pains. Enough analysis, I'm here to answer questions from myself.

    Carlos Gomez ...

I'll be honest, I'd like to watch an entire game in PHANTOM CAM. Although, that would take a few years. Think of all we would see though! Here are some thoughts I have from the PHANTOM CAM series.

    Kyle Gibson

I believe Kyle Gibson made his debut ...

  13. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

Another week of baseball's regular season has come and gone.

For the Twins there was plenty of news this week. The Marlins turned out to be pesky but they have been surprising more than one team in the National League so far this season. Kyle Gibson will be making his big league debut on Saturday and this is a moment to get a little bit excited about. Twins fans have heard his name for multiple seasons.

Ryan Doumit had a cool slide, Byron Buxton is good at baseball, and ...
  14. A Checklist for Kyle Gibson

The 2009 MLB Draft has to feel like eons ago to Mr. Kyle Gibson. He was supposed to be a high first round pick but some injury concerns caused him to drop to the Twins with the 22nd pick. In 2010, he went on a tear through the Twins farm system as he started in High-A and finished the year at Triple-A. The club named him the minor league pitcher of the year and he looked to be one step away from the big leagues.

Tommy John surgery would halt his progress in 2011 and he has been slowly ...
