  1. Friday Night Lights

    Scott Diamond actually gave up a few runs on Friday night, but because the Twins hitters brought their big bats to Miller Park, Diamond becomes the Twins first three-game winner. Josh Willingham got the offense started in the first inning with a long two-run homer. The game was 2-2 going into the 5th inning, but Joe Mauerís two-run double gave the Twins a 4-2 lead. They scored two the following inning on a two-run Denard Span single. They added four runs in the top of the eighth inning to put the ...

    Wait for it...

    Are you ready, yet?

    Don't adjust your monitor but the Twins just swept a two game series in Detroit. That's not a typo either.

    Over the course of the two games, the Tigers were a little error prone with six mistakes and the Twins were able to capitalize for five unearned runs. It has been great to see Trevor Plouffe find some semblance of power with two home runs in recent ...
  3. Buyer's Remorse to the Tune of $23,000,000.

    As any Twins fan knows, Joe Mauer was to be the centerpiece around which the Twins built their team. After inking him to a 8 year, $184 million dollar deal, Mauer's success has been spotty at best. Thursday's 0-5 performance with 5 runners left on base is just the latest in a rough patch for Mauer who is now hitting .265 on the season.

    Many fans, myself included, have been openly critical of Mauer and his inability to truly lead the team, perform under pressure and to stay healthy for ...

  4. Factors for Frustration

    When spring training opened up in late February, I posted an article called Twins Two-Way Planning in which I said that the Twins 2011 roster was probably built perfectly to go one of two directions. In essence, if things went poorly, they had enough one-year, veteran contracts of guys that other teams might have interest in at the trade deadline. The Twins could get prospects to help push forward the rebuilding process.

    However, the other scenario was, ďIF seven or eight of the factors ...
  5. Why Booing Mauer is Fruitless

    I have always been a huge Twins fan. When I moved away from Minnesota in the 5th grade, the Twins were my way of maintaining my connection to home. My earliest memories are getting the chocolate ice cream at the Metrodome that was served with a wooden spoon. It was a privilege to watch Kirby Puckett, one of the greatest players of the generation, roam center field. I couldn't imagine going to a game to boo the best player on the field, which is exactly what is happening in Minnesota with Joe Mauer. ...
  6. Ranking the best debuts by current Twins

    Dozier premiered for the Twins on Monday night and he seems to be making a mark on the line-up in this early part of his career. The debut of a player in the big leagues can be a moment full of anxiousness and hope. For most players, they have been working toward this moment since they were a child and the first steps ...
  7. Friday Night Lights (Wins, Sano and Speculation)

    The Twins return from a day off. However, they are still in the Pacific time zone, so that means some late games!! For those that didnít stay upÖ shame on you (just kidding!), but you missed a good game. With Scott Ullger at the helm, Carl Pavano was caught by Drew Butera, and Pavano responded with six shutout innings. Marinersí lefty Jason Vargas also held the Twins scoreless through six. The Twins got to the Mís bullpen for three runs in the top of the 7th, thanks to a couple of walks, an error ...

    Boy did it feel good to have a day to recover on Thursday after watching the Twins get no-hit by Jared Weaver on Wednesday night. This performance came on the heels of the Twins putting together a lack luster performance against Jerome Williams on Tuesday night. All together the Twins have been held hitless in 15 straight innings and now their focus will turn to the Seattle Mariners.

    The Twins record sits at 6-18, ...
  9. Joe Mauer and the Infamous 4-3 Putout

    [Originally published at Twins Fan From Afar]

    One of the more common Joe Mauer complaints in Twins Territory is that he grounds out to second base, and does it a lot. This phenomenon was on display last night in Anaheim, when Mauer was retired on a 4-3 putout in each of his three at-bats. And if you go back to his last plate appearance on April 29, before his day off against lefty C.J. Wilson, Mauer grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. That marks 4 straight at-bats in which Mauer has ...
  10. Albert Pujols vs Nick Blackburn, and the rest of the atrocious Twins starters.

    by , 04-30-2012 at 05:12 PM ("And we'll see ya' ... tomorrow night.")
    As Manny Acta from the Indians said " I feel sorry for the people who are going to see him going forward, because he's going to go off. He's getting close. I'm glad he's out of here." He is at home now vs the worst MLB rotation in the league, if he doesn't go off now, it could be pretty interesting for the Angels.

    Let's compare Mauer to Pujols right now:

    Mauer BA .325 OBP .419 SLG .428 1 HR (5 2b+3b) 13 RBI

    Pujols BA .216 OBP .266 SLG

  11. What will the hype be like for Sano's debut?

    Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    One of the most hyped debuts in MLB history took place over the weekend with Bryce Harper being penciled in to the Washington Nationals line-up for the first time as a 19-year old phenom. His first game looked like it was going to play out perfectly but Matt Kemp's walk-off home run in extra innings spoiled the coming ...
    Since the last time you joined me for an edition of "Friday Links-N-Thinks," the Twins have only one one game and that was on last Friday. It has been a rough week for Twins fans as the team looked to get back on track against the struggling Red Sox. This didn't happen but the one consolation prize is the fact that the Royals come to town this weekend and they have their own share of problems to deal with this season. Hopefully ...
  13. Joe Mauer and Runners in Scoring Position
    Though he had 2 hits last night, Joe Mauer came up
    short when it counted the most.
  14. Friday Night Game Notes (Twins Win and Sano Shines!)
    The Twins improved to 5-9 with a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Denard Span, Jamey Carroll and Joe Mauer each had two hits, but it was again Josh Willingham who played hero in this game. With the Twins down 4-2 in the 7th, the bases were loaded with two outs and Willingham came to the plate. With two strikes, Willingham drilled a opposite-field doubles to drive in three and give the Twins the lead. It extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Matt Maloney, Jared Burton, Brian ...
