  1. Monday Morning Madness - July 22, 2013

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!

The Twins are on fire. They have won back-to-back series for the first time since late May/early June. In doing so, they have put a little cushion between themselves and the last place White Sox. The Twins really capitalized on the Indians' pathetic defense (most notably Lonnie Chisenhall, who I feel very sorry for at this point) and won two of three games over the weekend. Winning four out of six games is a major accomplishment with ...
  2. Handing Out Twins First Half Awards

At the beginning of the season, I devoted an entire week to make predictions about the upcoming MLB season. These predictions can be fun especially with all of the surprises that surround the game of baseball. I had the Toronto Blue Jays winning the AL East... oops. There are going to be a few swings and misses.

With the All-Star Game over and done with, let's take a look back at the first half of the season and see who's in line for each of NoDak Twins Fan's end of the season awards. ...
  3. Trade Talk: Los Angeles Dodgers

Trade Deadline Overview: Los Angeles Dodgers

    Buyers or Sellers

Buyers. Following an indifferent start and (Yasiel Puig notwithstanding) an uninspiring May and early June, the Dodgers found themselves 9.5 games out of first on June 22, a season low 12 games below .500. Since then they have ripped off a 17-4 run, cutting the Diamondbacks lead to 2.5 games and reestablishing themselves in the soft NL West race. While still below .500, the Dodgers were built in the ...
  4. Marketable Twins (2nd of two-part series)

Yesterday we took a look at four Twins who will have minimal value on the trade market. Today we’re going to look at the three who probably have the most value (if they’re made available… and no, Joe Mauer isn’t available).

We’re going to skip Ryan Doumit and most of the bullpen. Personally, I feel like there are tradable assets there, so I maybe I’ll revisit that in the future.

  5. Former Twins Litter All-Star Rosters

The Minnesota Twins will host the 2014 All-Star Game at Target Field but a plethora of their former players will gather a year early for the Mid-Summer Classic. Seven former members of the organization will join current Twins players Joe Mauer and Glen Perkins. It would have been great to see all of these nine men on the field in Minneapolis so maybe they can all continue playing well for the next calendar year.

Many Twins fans are familiar with the year's being put together by Perkins ...
  6. Is Trading Glen Perkins Worth It?

One of the bright spots for the 2013 Minnesota Twins’ season, so far, has been the performance of their bullpen, specifically their closer Glen Perkins. With this being the first full season that Perkins has been the closer for the Twins, Perkins has performed like a stable and clutch veteran and the rest of the league certainly has taken notice. According to a Tweet sent by ESPN Baseball Expert Buster Olney, if the Twins were to make closer Glen Perkins available this July, prior to the trade deadline, ...
  7. 2013 Minnesota Twins Trade Candidates

The end of June is quickly approaching and this means it is a little over a month away from the July 31st trade deadline. Things have started to look a little better for the Twins but the club is still in the bottom half of the AL Central. This should mean the club will be sellers at this year's trade deadline.

As I have stated previously, the Twins focus should be on contending again by 2015. Joe Mauer will be the veteran bat in the middle of the line-up surrounded by other young ...

  9. Monday Morning Madness: June 17, 2013

The Twins dropped two of three from the Tigers this weekend, falling to 7.5 games out of a division that they were never going to win. While the Twins have played better in 2013, they still do not have the talent to match the Tigers over a full season. Yet, there were some positives from the weekend and I have some apologies to make as well.

I apologize to Clete Thomas. Just one week ago, I accused a wild turkey of creating a lineup that featured Clete Thomas batting second. While ...

Since Joe Nathan suffered a season-ending injury prior to the 2010 season, the Twins have seen a vast array of different pitchers to audition to fill the role of closer. Even Nathan himself came back for the 2011 season to nail down a few saves, but the Twins have seen players such as Jon Rauch, Matt Capps, Jared Burton and Glen Perkins try ...
  11. Who is Caleb Thielbar?

It has been quite the wild ride for Mr. Caleb J. Thielbar on his way to the major leagues.

The 26-year old left-hander was called-up by the Minnesota Twins on Monday after the team demoted fifth starter Pedro Hernandez. Thielbar is not a starter so the team will need to make another roster move before Friday's game to fill out the rotation. Options for this spot include Kyle Gibson, Sam Deduno, and PJ Walters.

Thielbar was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 18th ...
  12. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

The Twins continue their longest road trip of the year so far with games in Cleveland over the weekend. A four game series with the Boston Red Sox is looming at the beginning of next week but Minnesota needs to concentrate on beating opponents from the AL Central.

To the surprise of many experts and fans, the Twins are still sitting around the .500 mark. The team recorded their 12th win on the first day of May. Last year, the Twins didn't record win number 12 until May 17 so it is ...
  13. Friday Links-N-Thinks

Tragedy struck Boston on Monday with the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon.

A very visible sporting event was attacked and this story hit home with a lot of us. It can be frightening to think about attacks happening at big events but people are resilient. There were numerous positive stories coming out of the tragedy. A former New England Patriots lineman carried a woman to safety and there were plenty of other stories like this.

Many teams around the world of ...
  14. Anthony Swarzak could be key to the bullpen

When word came out following TwinsFest about the injury suffered by Anthony Swarzak, it had to be embarrassing. He suffered a fractured rib after wrestling with some teammates during the Twins annual fan festival. Swarzak would open the season on the DL and it was tough for him to watch the Twins fight the Tigers and the Orioles before he could get on the field.

Swarzak returned to the mound on Sunday and got four big outs for the Twins on their way to a second series win in a row ...
