  1. September Tanking and the Twins

The calendar turned to September over a week ago and some changes can followa failing team in the final month of the year. Younger players continue to getmore playing time over veterans like Ryan Doumit and Josh Willingham. It is thetime of year for the Twins to see what the future can hold and changes likethis can bring up some other questions.

During the last two seasons, the Twins have been able to see the value ofhaving a high draft pick. Byron Buxton and Kohl Stewart were added

Last week, the Twins announced the seven players that will represent the organization in the Arizona Fall League this year. It’s been a busy month for this guy (hence the first blog post in three weeks), but with the end of the minor league seasons upon us, I thought it would be as good a time as any to weigh in on those seven selections.

Notably, this group of Twins prospects is as talented as any team could have sent. As noted by Baseball ...

  3. Restarting a Culture of Winning

The Minnesota Twins have made a habit of losing over the last three seasons. With back-to-back 90 loss seasons and the team on track to make it three in a row, there hasn't been a lot to be excited about at the major league level. Poor starting pitching and a lack-luster offense have created a "Debby Downer" attitude among the former Twins faithful.

When Minnesota was in the midst of winning six division titles in nine years, a culture of winning was created even as there were changes ...
  4. Twins Minor League Report (8/31): Red Wings Keep Fighting

I know the picture doesn't fit, but for what might be the last time, let's give #33 another cover photo. This from a happier time.

Let's hope there is more champagne in Morneau's near future... and also that none of the corks hit him in the head.

If you want to weigh in on the trade and it's reactions. Go here.

Tonight was a very significant night for the Rochester Red Wings. It's also a big night for Josmil Pinto, ...
  5. Twins Minor League Report (8/28): Summers Shines

There was a ton of exciting action in the Twins farm system on Wednesday. Matt Summers took his Florida State League leading ERA to the mound for the Miracle. The Kernels were set to face off against former Twins pitcher Scott Baker as he works his way back from injury. New Britain found themselves in a back and forth contest that went well into the Eastern League night.

Let's check out what happened down on the pond.

Rochester Red Wings 5, Buffalo Bisons 2

  6. Twins Minor League Report (8/27): Colabello Named IL MVP

Chris Colabello's time in the major leagues this year hasn't been spectacular but he has been outstanding in his time in the minors. On Wednesday, Colabello was named the Most Valuable Player and the Rookie of the Year for the International League. This comes a year after finishing runner-up for MVP in the Eastern League.

Colabello has been a hitting machine for the Red Wings. He currently leads the league with a .352 batting average, a .427 on-base percentage, and a .639 slugging ...
  7. Twins Minor League Report (8/16-8/17): Two For One Special

Both last night's report as well as tonight's report will be covered down below.

As many of you know, on Friday Ryan Doumit was activated from the 7-day Concussion D.L. and Chris Colabello was optioned to Rochester to make room.

Today, Rochester announced that RP Luis Perdomo was placed on the D.L. with a right calf strain. That opens a spot for Colabello.

Also, yesterday 1B Michael Gonzales was activated by Cedar Rapids and earlier this morning MiLB.com posted ...
  8. Twins Minor League Report (8/15): Stewart Sets Career Highs

There were a few minor league moves to take place on Thursday. Outfielder Darin Mastroianni was due to come off the disabled list but he was in the middle of a hitting slump so he was optioned to Rochester. There might be a chance that he gets back to the big leagues this year but he had options left and it would be better for him to get his legs under him.

Outfielder Aaron Hicks has been dealing with a nagging injury. Rochester put him on the 7-day disabled list with a right heel ...
  9. Twins Minor League Report (8/14): Atherton Sparkles

http://nodaktwinsfan.comThe Twins bullpen had been solid in recent weeks before laying an egg at the hands of the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday afternoon. Casey Fien gave up three runs and later in the game Glen Perkins and Ryan Pressly allowed some late inning runs. Joe Mauer had five hits and came within one hit of tying Kirby Puckett's team record of six in a game.

There was some exciting action this evening as multiple teams were part of walk-off wins. Not all of those walk-offs ...
  10. Dozier, Rosario and the Future at Second Base

It has been quite the 12-month span for Twins second baseman Brian Dozier.

On August 14th of last season, the Twins had seen enough of him at shortstop with the big league club. They demoted him to Rochester after 340 plate appearances in his rookie campaign. Many thought he would be back as a September call-up but the call never came. Dozier was forced to live with a bad taste in his mouth for the entire offseason.

Brian Dozier entered the 2013 season not knowing if ...
  11. Fishing for the Biggest Marlin

"My big fish must be somewhere."--- Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea

Marlin fishing can be an adventure.

These beasts of the ocean can weight upwards of 1,000 pounds and it can take quite the fight to get them into a boat. Fishing for these animals can take a lot of time and patience. It also takes the right tools and skills to reel in one of these giant fish.

Over the weekend, a story came out in the Boston Globe that discussed the possibility ...
  12. Twins Minor League Report (8/5): Dean Dazzles

Today's baseball news was focused primarily on 12 players who received 50-game PED suspensions and one other who received a 211-game suspension and has decided to appeal. I haven't turned on ESPN, but I'm sure you could get a more in-depth run-down on these 13 players within 30 seconds on turning it on.

Fortunately, no Twins were involved. Former Twin Danny Valencia was investigated and cleared. It turns out he had higher-than-normal amount of "swag", but nothing illegal from Biogenesis. ...

    All hail Lord Byron.

It took him awhile to adjust to his new Fort Myers digs, but Byron Buxton is once again doing man things. On Monday, Buxton was named Florida State League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on July 28th, further cementing his status as the top prospect in baseball. To celebrate his latest achievement, he went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored Monday night, pacing the Miracle to a 5-0 win over Scott

Last week’s Triple-A All-Star Game marked the last of the minor league circuit’s midsummer classics. The passing of the first half also meant the release of several midseason top prospect lists, and with the Twins steamrolling towards another 90-loss season, at least fans can take solace in the various updated rankings and know that better days are ahead.
Several highly respected prospect evaluators released their midseason rankings over the past month, ...
