  1. Twins Rotation Starting To Look Crowded

Over the weekend, word came out that the Twins would sign Mike Pelfrey to a two-year $11 million deal. This is the third free agent starter the Twins have added this season as the team already agreed to terms with Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes. With Kevin Corriea under contract for another year, Minnesota's starting rotation is filling up rather quickly but there are still some questions to about the final rotation spot.

The Twins had one of the worst starting rotations in all of baseball ...
  2. Top 20 Prospects

As the Handbook receives it's finishing touches - and if you follow Seth on Twitter, you know it will be available very soon - I decided that I should put my list on here to get picked apart. Seth and Cody already made their choices public, so what the heck.

    20. Francisco Romero, P
Romero is a long ways away and still has plenty of question marks, but the upside is evident.

    19. Kennys Vargas, 1B
I'm probably lower on Vargas ...
  3. Cody's 2014 Minnesota Twins Top Prospects: 1-10

One of the benefits of being a bad team for multiple seasons is the fact the Twins have been able to replenish some of their farm system with high draft picks the last two years. Add these players into a group that already included some top-notch talent and the future of the Twins organization continues to look bright.

Throughout the offseason there will be plenty of prospect lists released by a variety of media outlets. There are always differences between how people view the particular ...
  4. When Could Alex Meyer Boost the Rotation?

There are plenty of questions for the Twins to find answers to in the coming months. One of the biggest conundrums swirling around the team is trying to figure out who will make up the starting rotation. Kevin Correia seems like the only lock for a starting job but the Twins don't really want him as the staff ace. So what direction should the team go?

If the season started today, the Twins would likely enter the year with a rotation composed of Kevin Correia, Kyle Gibson, Scott Diamond, ...
  5. A Very Early Look at the 2014 Rochester Red Wings

It's been just four days since the Red Wings lost game five of their playoff series against the Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-0. Immediately after the game the Minnesota Twins selected contracts of seven Rochester players, which started me thinking about what the Red Wings could look like in 2014.

While there will be free agent signings, trades will take place, it will be interesting to see exactly what the Rochester Red Wings are going to look like next season, and see if they’ll be able to ...

Last week, the Twins announced the seven players that will represent the organization in the Arizona Fall League this year. It’s been a busy month for this guy (hence the first blog post in three weeks), but with the end of the minor league seasons upon us, I thought it would be as good a time as any to weigh in on those seven selections.

Notably, this group of Twins prospects is as talented as any team could have sent. As noted by Baseball ...

  7. Twins Minor League Report (8/19): Pitchers Get It Done... AGAIN!

We've been dealing with dreadful pitching in the major leagues pretty much everyday since... well... 2011. Today was more of the same. In fact, Kyle Gibson was sent back to Rochester after today's outing.

There were some other minor league moves as well. A.J. Pettersen was moved from New Britain to Fort Myers along with Matthew Summers. To make room, Fort Myers sent Alex Swim back across the street.

On a positive note, those in the FSNorth viewership got to see a glimpse ...
  8. Twins Minor League Report (8/18): Pitchers Get It Done

The Twins remain in the 7th slot for the 2014 MLB Draft if the season ended today. It will be an interesting six weeks as only four games separate the 4th pick from the 15th pick. The Twins are currently 1.5 games ahead of the Cubs (who would pick 4th) and only 2.5 games behind Colorado (who would pick 15th).

The Red Wings announced this morning that OF Antoan Richardson would be activated and UTIL Brian Dinkelman would be placed on the DL with a quad strain.

    This afternoon, ...
  9. Fishing for the Biggest Marlin

"My big fish must be somewhere."--- Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea

Marlin fishing can be an adventure.

These beasts of the ocean can weight upwards of 1,000 pounds and it can take quite the fight to get them into a boat. Fishing for these animals can take a lot of time and patience. It also takes the right tools and skills to reel in one of these giant fish.

Over the weekend, a story came out in the Boston Globe that discussed the possibility ...
  10. Reviewing the Span and Revere Trades

The non-waiver trade deadline is closing in quickly and it is still tough to know what the Twins will do in the coming hours. Is Justin Morneau's Twins career over? Will Glen Perkins still be the guy at the back end of the bullpen? Can the Twins afford to part with Kevin Correia or Mike Pelfrey? There could be a lot of deals in the next couple days or there could be nothing but the sounds of crickets.

During the offseason, the Twins made a lot of noise by dealing two of their starting ...

Last week’s Triple-A All-Star Game marked the last of the minor league circuit’s midsummer classics. The passing of the first half also meant the release of several midseason top prospect lists, and with the Twins steamrolling towards another 90-loss season, at least fans can take solace in the various updated rankings and know that better days are ahead.
Several highly respected prospect evaluators released their midseason rankings over the past month, ...
  12. Twins Minor League Report (7/8):

Monday morning got out to a quick - and good - start when Baseball America released their mid-season Top 50.

Byron Buxton was ranked the #1 prospect in all of baseball.
No. 1 talent in last year’s draft is even better than expected with power, speed, defense and an extremely advanced hitting approach
Miguel Sano, despite being in a little bit of a funk, checked in only two spots later at #3.
Best power in the minors, one of the best arms. Hitting ability has

  13. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

After a rough road trip over the last week, the Twins returned home to face a Phillies team with it's own share of struggles. Minnesota won the first two games of the series but both games were close. The Tigers come to town for Father's Day weekend and this marks the start of nine straight games against AL Central opponents.

This can become a crucial part of the schedule if the Twins want to stay in the hunt for a division crown. The club has a winning record so far in June and that ...

At the end of last week, the Twins added some strong talent to their organization through the MLB Draft. Minnesota's farm system was already considered one of the best in baseball and having another top 5 pick can only help to improve their top level talent.

My last prospect ranking came back when I was helping to put together the "Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook." There have been a few changes to the list as players begin to move closer to the ...
