  1. Saturday in the Minor League Parks

The Twins lost 9-3 to the A’s on Saturday night. It was a bad games for the Twins right from the start. Cole De Vries gave up four runs in the first innings, the big blast was a three-run homer off the bat of Chris Carter. The A’s hit three more homers in the game. The Twins rang the bases really poorly. The offense did very little against the A’s Tommy Milone. Brian Dozier and Josh Willingham each had solo home runs, but it was far from enough.

With that, here is a look at the Twins ...
  2. Blow by blow blogging of our annual pack of baseball cards

I decided many years ago to stop collecting baseball cards. Much as I loved them, they didn't do much--they certainly didn't increase in value, and my packs tended to come up with a whole lot of relievers and utility infielders and not a lot of stars.

But after our most recent move, I found a thick stack of my old cards and remembered how much I loved using them around the house. Sure enough, just about every card serves a purpose now, marking my place in one of the four or six books ...

  3. Trip to Target

Friday the 13th was living up to it's unlucky superstition yesterday. Upon arrival to the Twin Cities, and following a 2 1/2 hour drive, I was greeted by pouring rain and hail. It wasn't long before the poor weather conditions were making a good reflection of my temperament by effect. It had been weeks since I had seen rain and of all days...now?! Fortunately enough, the storm clouds passed and the end result was nothing more than a 15 minute delay.

My seat was in the bleachers just ...

  4. Friday Night Minor League Nights

Francisco Liriano struck out 15 batters in eight innings for the Twins on Friday night, and he got a loss. The talented left-hander was pitching with his form from 2006. Unfortunately, he also had the fourth inning. It started with a single by Jemile Weeks. One out later, Denard Span dropped a fly ball. Liriano then issued a walk. With the bases loaded, Liriano served up a pitch that Johnny Gomes knocked for a grand slam. Outside of the one inning, Liriano was dominant. Josh Willingham homered twice ...
  5. Trade Target Team Profile: San Diego Padres

    The Big Picture.

I have become an ardent Padres fan. I root for them every day. Why? Because they have 54 losses, which is tied with the Astros for worst record in MLB. The Twins have only 50 losses. I am rooting for the Padres (and Astros, Mariners, Cubs, etc.) for the rest of this year, because if they do well, then the Twins may get a better draft position next year.

Like the Twins, the Padres are having a TERRIBLE season. Like the Twins, they have ...

  6. My Plan to Make Twins Semi-Contenders for 2013... While Enhancing the Farm System

2012 - July Trade Deadline Moves

#1 - Josh Willingham, Francisco Liriano, Alexi Casilla to Pittsburgh Pirates

for AAA OF - Robbie Grossman (b- grade), A+ SP - Jameson Taillon (a- grade), A SS - Alen Hanson (b/b+ grade), AAA SP - Kyle McPherson (c+ grade), & AAA/MLB RP - Evan Meek.

    * if they're unwilling to part with Taillon , get A Ball pitcher Luis Heredia instead....a rich man's version of Adrian Salcedo with strikeout potential.

    #2 - Matt ...

  7. Friday Links-N-Thinks

Happy Friday! I hope you made it through the week and you are looking forward to the weekend. It's hard to believe that it is already the 13th of July. Where is the time going from this summer? Make sure you spend some time this weekend enjoying the warm weather and the wonderful outdoors. It won't be long and we will all be stuck inside for another frigid winter across Twins Territory. At least the Wild should be worth watching this season with their newest additions.

  8. Liam Hendriks’ 2012 Season: With Great Success Comes Great Expectations

    Originally posted at http://minnesotasportshub.wordpress.com/

It’s safe to say that the Minnesota Twins faithful have grown accustomed to the frustration that has surrounded the franchise since opening day of the 2011 season. Whether it was Joe Mauer’s bilateral leg weakness, Justin Morneau’s never ending concussion symptoms or the entire starting rotations lackluster beginning to the 2012 season, there has always been something for the fan base to shake their heads at.

  9. ASG, Soccer vs Baseball, What to Expect 2nd Half

by , 07-13-2012 at 01:01 AM ("And we'll see ya' ... tomorrow night.")
So the All Star game has come and gone, which also means the first half of baseball has come and gone, and most of us reading here get to see the Minnesota Twins 13 games under .500 11 games out of first in the AL Central. Since there aren't many sports going on right now, there are two things to talk about, the All Star Game, (what Twins should have got in), and of course the Wild signing Parise and Suter. I have to say I went back on a statement I made about Mauer not being our All Star. We ...

  10. Trade Target Team Profile: Washington Nationals

At the All Star Break last year, the Washington Nationals were playing .500 baseball (46-46) but were already 11.5 games back behind the National League East leading Phillies.

To be sure, it was just their second non-losing first half of the season since they emigrated from Montreal. Prior to last season, DC had entered just one midseason classic with a winning record. When MLB moved the Expos to the nation’s capital, the newly christen ...

  11. Thursday's Minor League Round-up

    Another slow day around baseball.

The Twins activated RP Matt Capps and optioned Kyle Waldrop back to Rochester. The Wings currently have six pitchers on the disabled list, so getting another arm is probably pretty welcome.

The Twins reached agreements with 23rd round pick P Travis Huber from Nebraska and 28th round pick P Carson Goldsmith.

It was also announced that 6th rounder Andre Martinez (P) will not actually sign after it was reported he agreed ...

  12. Twins Top 50 Prospects

This is my assessment of the Twins current minor league system. You'll notice that Liam Hendriks, Brian Dozier, and Chris Parmelee are not included because I no longer consider them prospects. Much of this has been done from a statistical viewpoint and age is another big factor. I listed positions to give a clear cut view of how depth is at each spot. I'd like to give a little credit to shanewahl and TwinkieTown for providing reasonable comparisons to my own. Please enjoy!

  13. Defending Joe Mauer's value for $23M/per year

It is super popular to rip Mauer and his contract, more specifically his "output/dollar spent ratio"but let's be honest - it is 100% not his fault the Twins are so bad this season. Yes, even when you factor in how his $23m/yr ties up so much payroll. My argument:

    1) Mauer is the best offensive catcher in the AL. He is also paid the most.

    2) Everyone wants to make the argument that he ties up $23m/year for his "pedestrian production". The guy is leading ...

  14. Twins second-half headlines to watch

The Twins still have one more day before they kick off the second half of the 2012 season so this gives the players and their fans another day to enjoy a break from the world of baseball. Now with the addition of the extra Wild Card team in each league, it seems that plenty of teams find themselves in reach of a playoff spot at the All-Star Break. In the American League, every
